Correct, the actuator. It’s like a $200 part last I checked for my 350Z. Not so much a cleaning issue, but the arm and plastic gears get jammed.

No paper jam. In this case, the OP is experiencing where the latching hook doesn’t catch onto the trunk hook because of a internal gear jam.

I know exactly what you’re are talking about, as this happened with my ‘07 Z. There is a temp solution but a pain in the @$$, and will be better off replacing the latching mechanism part. Correct me...
