Yes you do unplug the battery first to reset the ECU. By the time you are done its reset...well actually faster then that but you disconnect the battery first. The directions state that as well.

Did he run it without the MAF not in the CAI? Did he disconnect the battery when he installed it?

Its a pretty straight forward procedure to install this..seems to be the main one that everyone...
