Yes it can. Depends on when your 2011 was actually manufactured. My 2011 was made in October of 2010 and it doesn't have the newest version. But there is only one 2011 I've heard of failing.

I know some guys where able to lightly beat on the the steering lock with a screwdriver to unlock it. Not sure if you have to have the car to the on or acc postion but it worked for some. Maybe if...
