so does using a smooth tube really give any benifits over the ribbed tube or does the MAF placement matter

So if the stock air intake is a closed cai drawing air from the front of the bumber would replacing the ribbed tubing for some smooth tubing and droping in a higher flowing filter give decent gains? ...
