Only 20k? I asked for an itemized version of the misses ACL surgery, because I wanted to make sure they were not double charging for sh1t which on big surgeries they do.
The bill was $89,xxx

And I got to see all the BS insurance & doctors do to jack rates up, there are multiple lines of insurance denies X amount, doctor adjust amounts, insurance denies Y amount, etc

The fine isn't small at the large company level, and good benefits are a good way to attract and retain talent. Look, the ACA is a bad way to force individuals to get insurance. That's not in question. But the "Chicken Little" reactions to it based on feelings are why our government is shut down at this moment.

I'd rather not talk about the shutdown because that could be political, like who to blame.

It's a fact that companies are hiring & changing to a part time work force. So it's not far fetched to say that companies might end their health care insurance since the Govt. is pushing them to switch to the ACA. That name ACA should be changed back to what it was called before:)

It just sucks for the small business owner with lets say 50 employees. Additional 5k tax just because. Ouch. (Btw, I don't own a small business, yet.)

I read his statement as "If you don't have sense enough to be prepared maybe we don't need you spreading your genes any further."

I'm completely on board with that in all facets of life.

Ah, well then this would be a good comparison on price difference through the years. I think in the end I have paid for everything close to 4-5k out of my pocket (doctor visits, surgery, knee braces, physical therapy, etc) and she went through her insurance of course from her company which is very very good. It is a shock to see the initial amount due, was only like 2k for the day of surgery but it is all the extra expenses that can go up.

Well, if I add in the braces, PT, etc that number goes up dramatically. Call it $30-35k in mid 90's dollars. So it's more than doubled in ~15 years.

It's pretty much a copy/paste of Mitt Romney's plan when he was the governor of Mass, with features dating back to plans put forward by both Democrats and Republicans. Obamacare is what the far right calls it because they're uninformed of the origins of the plan.

Seeing as POTUS has been the main driving force behind ACA, I think it's fair to call it Obamacare. It may not be an original idea of his but he is the star of the show for this go-around. 'Most everyone I know - left, right, and in-between - calls it Obamacare. Not to be derisive, but just because the name fits. A rose by any other name...

That's true, but a lot of people seem to be running around with the idea Obama came up with it all on his own.
