You're right on the principle of the debt ceiling, but operationally we need the breathing room. It sucks, but this is what happens when we haven't had a budget for years.

As to the bolded part, who do you think is paying for those people right now when they go to the ER for all their health care needs? The ACA is not a good piece of legislature for many reasons, but it's not like it's adding a cost where there was none before.

I wish it were true. Unfortunately ER will never end & just like everything else, cost NEVER goes down:(

I don't understand why they didn't let med. insurance go like car insurance, ALL companies available in EVERY state. We had some states with only ONE insurance choice. Crazy....

The problem with the ACA was that the insurance companies got their hands in it. A "Medicare for all" type plan (with a load of Medicare reform), with an option for individuals to continue with their private insurance would have been best, but there was no money in it.

I was born a long time ago in a sicialist/communist country

The policy was to make it fair. All people to get paid the same, and own the same stuff. Well since ALL got paid the same, everybody produced very little & the country was one of the poorest in the world. NO incentives, NO innovation, NOT GOOD!!!!! That's why my family came to this country.

Oh yes, the Govt. people & gangsters did just fine.

If I/you work for it, don't you deserve a Z??? or what ever.

Got to go:ugh2:

Socialist or communist? They're not the same.

There are really no communist countries. For the most part they are socialist.

While I'm NO fan of Ted Cruz, both sides of the aisle have plenty of blame to share with this mess. Reid is a true clown as well.

A congress that truly isn't accountable to the people is the problem. Everyone loves their local rep; it;'s the other ones that are bad. Seriously need four year term limit for every political office.

When you (congress) have your own pension plan, health care, and basically jobs for life, what's the incentive to do anything but pander to constituents?

Hope things work out for you fed gov't guys. These fools will run it down to the last minute.

I ws under the impression that in a communist country the means of production was nationalized across the board, not so in socialist countries.

You're spot on on the rest. Cruz is just the easiest target at the moment since he's been trying to filibuster. The green eggs and ham stunt is classic.

I know how to avoid the political stigma

Instead of politics, let's have a section for "IN THE NEWS TODAY" ??????

I'm not a party guy. They, well most of them svck in my book.

Absolute truth. They're just different condiments on the same **** sandwich.

Unfortunately, a current events section would quickly become a political discussion section. I still think a section to discuss politics civilly would be a good thing. The problem is keeping it civil sometimes.

I was speaking in the broader more cold war Soviet Union sense. While all industry may be nationlized, the profits from that labor are never shared equally. In most instances, Stalin was as bad, if not worse, than Hitler.

There was not a whole lot of ideology of Carl Marx that was ever really practiced in the Soviet Union.

Ah, I get what you're saying. I was working from the book definitions. Either way, it never works.

"raise the debt ceiling" That's not a good thing. We can't do that when it comes to our personal financing. Also raising the debt ceiling, for those that don't understand, is being allowed to spend more money(again) than the Govt. makes/has. This will end soon because the reason we can do that with minimal hurt now is because the oil producers have a deal with us that ALL payments made by ALL countries is done with U.S. dollars. That is the biggest reason why the dollar still has strength. Unfortunately, the oil producers are seriously thinking (fact!) of dropping the U.S. dollar as the main payment for oil. When that happens, & it will soon, the dollar will fall & everything will jump in price. That's EVERYTHING! So soon most of us will become poor overnight. Not able to afford the things we take for granted today. We will owe/in debt for over 20 trillion dollars by next Pres. election 2016.

As far as Obama care, it will be another huge govt. bureaucracy paid by the WORKING TAX PAYERS that will support people with families or not, that have NOT worked or paid taxes a single time in their lives. Let's take the guy that spends his days selling drugs in the park. He has all the time in the world & will be able to go to YOUR doctor AHEAD of you. Also the Government TODAY already pays for FREE cab service to people that don't earn/report making a living/paying taxes.

That is why the projected costs especially for the young/younger tax payers is very high, and as you know project costs ALWAYS end up higher.

So my friend above :roflpuke2:

We can raise our own debt ceiling, we do it all the time. It's called taking out more credit.

H2O_Doc 09-30-2013 12:29 PM

I was sort of wondering how many of you out there are Feds or contractors to Feds?

Kind of. Eventually no one will give you any more credit. The government doesn't really have that problem.

If we go to war, or the government shuts down, or our economy/car market, I think it's just as important as how much whp my car has.

Let's behave/be civil; as civil as the other threads :)
