Here's some more stuff you guys will hate:

I do not hate them. Your lighting is getiing better and better, IMO.
|
lighting looks good, model's poses weren't bad but the location is terribly boring. studio shots are all and well but these don't feel like that. they feel like an impromptu thing in your living room (which they may well be). try again at a good location and see how much they will improve
(or maybe add a prop and/or chair... something else in the frame) |

A girlfriend of mine has a basically unfurnished bachelorette's apartment that I've been using to shoot in. Alas, it's not big enough to put up the seamless backdrop, so beat up hardwood floor and blank wall it is. I thought it had a loft kind of feel, but maybe I'm giving it too much credit. Edit: I guess I thought my shooting space looked like this: http://images.freshnessmag.com/wp-co...ookbook-00.jpg It's been too damn hot and humid to shoot people outside. Fall can't get here soon enough! |
no argument from me here on that one!

She's hot

Still shooting in my girlfriend's bachelorette pad, but without the impromptu thing in my living room feeling simply by leaving the floor and baseboard out of the image. Could have been a seamless backdrop for all you know ;)
http://www.modachroma.com/images/Copy of cambrea-2.jpg Then I took it outside. http://www.modachroma.com/images/Copy of cambrea-1.jpg |
the outside shots are much better!

a good rule of thumb is to always have a faster shutter speed than your MM of zoom. so if you are at 100mm, you need 1/125th or 1/160th. if you are at 200mm, 1/250th or 1/320th and so on. sounds like your shutter speed was a little slow for that shot. f/10 would have been plenty for that shot if not f/8 or even 5.6. f/8 will get most subjects completely in focus depending on what you are shooting and how far away it is.
|
|
Note that the rule of thumb is for 35mm (full frame) so, depending on your experience and steadiness, you may want to multiply by your camera's crop factor to get the equivalent rule for you, then add or subtract a stop.
Also the rule of thumb for aperture is two stops closed from wide open, but generally around f/5.6 to f/8 is best for most lenses. F/18 could start to show effects from diffraction, depending on final magnification. With such a flat subject, there's no need for a high DOF unless it was a macro shot. |
Just when I stop following this thread, people start replying with solid, useful feedback.

So shooting with a 7D 50mm let's say. I should look at it as shooting at 75mm and be at 80+ shutter? |

A couple of weekends ago I was in Richmond, VA for the NASCAR race weekend at Richmond International Raceway. A friend of mine works for Joey Logano's team (#20 Home Depot car owned by Joe Gibbs Racing) so I got some behind the scenes access. We hung out with the team and a lot of drivers... good fun.
Here are a few pics from Friday practice for the Sprint Cup cars: http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-X...XNQ8GjC-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-g...gM8TNsj-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-s...s8F2L5g-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-z...zDKBtw6-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-L...L83zgB6-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-q...q6n29dM-XL.jpg http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-S...SSkRw4T-XL.jpg |
At this particular track the Nationwide series cars do not get dedicated garage stalls. You get to see a lot more stuff this way.
