I went to a large format camera to teach me patience. It worked. Film was about 3 to 5 dollars a frame and developing was about the same. So each image was about 7 or 8 dollars to get one 4x5 inch transparency. At that price, gotta slow down and get it right. Then scans, and printing on top of that. Hi-Res scans with a Heidelberg Tango scanner was about 80 dollars a pop. The upside is that I can do 4x5 foot prints that have very high detail. I can't get the film I want for it any more so I will sell it and pick up a new DSLR.

So now I am thinking of the Canon 5Ds and the GigaPan Epic Pro to get large print detail. Anybody ever use a GigaPan? It's about the same price for the panorama gear from Really Right Stuff, but automates the capture. Supposedly it comes with the software to stitch as well. If you set it up to correct for parallax errors it makes it very easy from what I understand.

The Gigapan seems cool but overkill IMO unless you plan on a massive print.

Yup. Big prints with minimal to no grain and great detail were my thing. I would like it to be my thing again.

Anybody have experience with mirrorless cameras and how they compare to DSLRs? I'm looking at possibly getting a Sony a6000 to replace my Canon SL1

A review from dpreview.com

Sony Alpha a600

They allow you to compare image quality side by side with what ever camera they have data.

Best buy is having a sale on the 24mm and 40mm pancake lenses. Which would be better for a t3i? I'd like something I can use for photos of my son but also a few city shots now and then.

We use GH4's to shoot 4k video. Excellent quality.

No you don't. You would never keep it clean because it rains all the damn time. Haha. The only reason why I still have my plates is no smog for the county I lived in.

Ah, but you see, I would live in the Tri-Cities area or Pullman. Only go to the evergreen side during the last two weeks of July and first to weeks of August. Desert the rest of the time. If I lived in Pullman I could go down and drive the Old Spiral Highway all the time.
