OP, the howling noise is probably because the back lash isn't set correctly. Nothing to do with the Quaife diff. I had the same diff and 4.08 gears installed on

Faulty Quaife
Hi Guys. I just had a Quaife installed. It sounds like it was a faulty install. My Quaife has no noise . In fact they are probably some of the quietest Aftermarket LSD that you can install. Its a clutch less design.
