TRADE: Akebono Sports Brake Gray for Red + Cash
Anyone willing to trade their 40th Anniversary or 2013 Red Akebono Sports Brake Calipers (Front & Rear) for my Gray one + Cash?
I've been thinking of powdercoating mine to Red, but I track my car and seen people's Powdercoat melt or got soft. So I prefer to trade instead. Plus I want the OEM finish with the Decal underneath the clear coat. |
Just paint them with alot of clear. They'll hold up
Nobody gonna wanna trade anyway ;) |
... If it's going to melt powder coating, the coating isn't your main concern, LOL
Normal powder will take... 500~degrees You can use Cerakote, it comes in "Stop Light Red" and it should withstand temps above 800 degrees |
Mike the powdercoater has a great track record on this forum, just a thought for you.
I'm thinking about getting mine done eventually, and he seems like the man to go to. |

And you can buy the logos on eBay although I hate eBay Btw, off topic, pat, did you get the filters??? STUPID USPS was $9, and my bad it took 2 days to ship |
That's what I'm hoping to do...unfortunately places here charge an arm and a leg to paint the rotors....i'm looking at easily $500+ for hi temp paint. Sucks....It's almost the price of some sport Calipers used.

Any auto store sells high temp caliper paint, do some red, place an eBay decal, then spray clear over it. And done! |

Let me know if you come across a good DIY. |

USE THE SPRAY! Lol You'll get a REALLY OEM, cleaner look with the spray |
best bet is to do your original post idea and trade with someone who wants a custom color caliper. Or buy the red ones and sell yours. The powdercoat holds up great for everyday use, but on some cars, especially ours, with horrific brake cooling, it does get soft and brake dust impregnates it.
Painting them yourself will look homemade, and after a year, will look spray painted. I do 5-10 sets of calipers a week, and I get tons of calipers in that people have painted themselves first that really don't hold up at all, even with the caliper paint. Its ok for a Honda, or even the base brakes, but not on akebonos. |
