CATs don't surprise me much...been playing with my system. TPs and no real change. Took the rear can and holy crap...it got loud fast. Even my NISMO must be packed with 10lbs of crap to silence the VQ....

Bumpity! Aaaaaand... here's a video I just took of it.

Tempting….

I have FI resonated test pipes and CBE with 18" carbon fiber resonators.

I would want to keep the test pipes though. The stock cats are crappy…….. seriously heavy and rob power.

I'm about 30 minutes away.

JerWA 09-18-2010 10:05 PM

Nikon FM: I'd be willing to do that trade if you'd be willing to go halves on HFCs. That'd be around $175 here on the forums, assuming someone had some up for sale.

Let me know what you think. And you can, of course, come check out the system and hear it in person since you're so close. I'd be interested in hearing yours as well, since FI says the resonated test pipes are pretty quiet so it'd probably be pretty close to how it would sound with HFCs.

Is there a reason you're wanting out of the FI system?

Nizmo0533 09-18-2010 10:53 PM

i guess you bought my car!! congrat!!!! and have Stillen G3 intake + nav and sub right?

Nikon FM 09-18-2010 11:30 PM

Loud or not I love the sound. What makes me hesitate is whether the performance would be similar.

Perhaps we should meet half way so you can hear the FI setup. Redmond?

With the NISMO body kit. If so, yep lol. Glad you're on here, was wanting to ask if any tuning had been done lol. I'll shoot you a PM.

I haven't seen any dyno #'s on the GT Haus stuff. You get as big a gain from the cats as you do the whole rest of the system though, so I doubt there'd be a huge difference either way for you since you're already on test pipes. From other threads on this site it sounds like the FI and GTS will be pretty close performance wise, because they're both about the most you can gain from CBE only (i.e. ~20 rwhp). Maybe you'd gain a few hp, but I'm sure you wouldn't lose any. There's gotta be a reason people are willing to spend $2,100 for the cheaper version (stainless, i.e. this one) of this exhaust!

It really comes down to personal preference. For me, I just don't want to advertise quite so much to the cops that I drive somewhat "spiritedly" on my way to/from work. ;)

Edit: Oh yeah, I work in Redmond so that's a good spot. I live north of there, so whichever works.

I think F.I. did there dyno with the HFC or TP because it comes with the order when you select on there sight what it is that you want. pretty sure the CBE for our car nets around 8-10hp and the test pipes around 10-12hp correct me if im wrong. idk anything about high flow cats but im sure its in the ball park. As for performance it should be close.

good luck on the trade, hope it all works out.

Looking on the FI dyno charts the HFC versus TP are ~3-4 less WHP. I like FI because they were quick to post the performance of all their products. Not too many other brands post numbers.

JerWA 09-19-2010 01:57 PM

From what I've read the CBE is worth ~20 by itself for the top names for the full setup, y pipes, mid, and muffler. FI is at 20, Stillen at 18, etc. Neither system includes test pipes or cats. HFCs are over $500 new from FI, and definitely not counted in the $1,200ish system price. I assume their #'s do not includes test pipes or cats, but could be wrong.

GT Haus is $2,100ish without test pipes or cats.

I've been getting most of my info from here: 370Z Exhaust.com - Sound clips, photos + places to buy
They have dyno #'s on a lot of the setups, but even they don't have GT Haus #'s.

PS: Previous owner of the car got in touch (see earlier in the thread) and says the Meisterschaft system I'm trying to sell/trade only has 3k miles on it. It does look clean still, so I can believe it. Might have some dyno #'s too, but they would include the Stillen G3 intake and tuning, so I'm not sure how valid they would be against what's posted elsewhere. :(

Do you live around the North end? I keep seeing a white NISMO in the same spot.

My two cents is that the Y-pipe collector is going to make the biggest difference. The diameter on the Meisterschaft system is significantly larger than that of the OEM setup. The FI setup is true dual, no? The muffler section of the Meisterschaft system isn't super restrictive, hence the noise.

The diameter of the Meisterschaft mid-pipe however is fairly close to stock, at least compared to that of my OEM NISMO exhaust. It does remove the mid-pipe silencers too though. I'd guess you'll be within a few HP of the FI.

As you said, when you're at the track you're staying in the fat part of the torque band. That's when the Meisterschaft system truly picks up. You'll be in the upper half of the RPM range mostly and the sound is just glorious at that end. I scared quite a few people in the I-90 tunnel when I had the system on my car.

Nikon FM 09-23-2010 10:40 PM

I love to down shift in the I90 tunnel. Great acoustics

tjlazer 10-14-2010 03:33 PM

Did you guys do the trade?

JerWA 10-15-2010 03:40 AM

Nope. I'm still interested in trading the system for something quieter. I'm thinking a Gemini + HFCs might be a good setup for me. Probably the same HP (vs my stock cats now compared to HFCs + the Gemini which is less hp than my system) but much quieter.

I've gotten more used to the Meisterschaft, but the other day I romped on it in a parking garage and it shocked me how loud it is haha.

marcussoori 10-25-2010 05:44 PM

Still have the Meisterschaft available? I have a Stillen CBE and Berk HFCs to trade, if you like...
