AP Racing CP9668/9660 Brake Kit Hardware

3 Attachment(s)
More info here: http://www.the370z.com/brakes-suspen...-9660-kit.html

Short of it is, after years of testing and changing up my brake setup on my 370Z for the track, I decided to make my dream set of brakes a reality.
AP Racing Pro 5000R CP9668 calipers with their 72 vane 372x34mm J hook rotors!

AP Racing CP9668 calipers allows for 25mm thick pads, is super rigid, and crazy light. The 9660 calipers are even lighter and slightly cheaper, with a bit better wheel clearance.
The 372x34mm 72 vane J hook discs from AP Racing are the best I could find that would comfortably fit under 18 inch wheels and be readily available. I've attached a pic to show the difference between AP Racing, OEM, Z1, and Wilwood.

I got final production units made in a batch of 3. One set is going on my car, and I have two left for sale.

The kit at $900 includes hats, brackets, 4 grade 12.9 caliper bolts, and SS brake lines. If you already have SS lines with M10x1 banjo bolt ends at the caliper side, I can exclude the lines for $850.

Pickup is available in Madison, WI, and have these also listed at 370zed.com, for anyone wanting to make payment through Shopify. I also take PayPal Goods and Services and Venmo.
Shipping isn't a problem either!

FAQ:
What do I need to complete this kit?
You need a pair of CP9668 calipers (L/R).
A pair of rotor rings: CP7177-350RC, (L/R).
Two sets of bobbin hardware to attach those rings to these hats: CP2494-1341K12.

Where can I buy the rest?
Calipers are significantly cheaper buying directly from a UK shop.
I got the calipers and bobbins from AP Motorsports, UK, and the rings from Flatirons tuning. Alternatively, Essex is a great vendor in the US, but price ends up significantly higher.

Can I buy the full kit from you instead?
Absolutely! I can work with those vendors to ship them directly to your address, and have this option on my site.

What pads should I use?
I can help you out on pad selection. All common track pads have been made in this shape, from my searches, and I can help recommend pad combos for you.
Staggered Gloc R12/R10 pads have continued to work great for me with these brakes.

Bump:
For anyone willing to use a 1mm shim (I used some large copper ones for a few tests before my final brackets came in), or run the caliper slightly off center, I have one pair of brackets available for $300 off.

DarkJak 08-23-2021 02:00 PM

Post-test bump:
I'm thrilled with testing at Blackhawk Farms this weekend.
Running a full weight, aero car at full pace for almost all of each 25 minute session, the brakes held up and didn't break a sweat.
Rotor temps were about 200F lower than my previous custom Wilwood rotor setup, and pad wear was negligible.
Pedal was much more consistent and firm, and bias felt spot on.
I am pretty confident anyone moving up to these will also be very happy with the jump up.

AZ-370Z 08-23-2021 06:50 PM

This is incredible. Well done, man.

DarkJak 09-01-2021 10:20 AM

Bump. I can provide recommendations on shops to buy from for the calipers and rings, or just handle all that for you, too.

prandelia 09-03-2021 08:01 AM

Hmm, interesting. I might jump on a set. PM me the details about where to source the calipers, rings and bobbins with part numbers. Thanks.

Pervez

DarkJak 09-04-2021 02:28 PM

PM'd.
Calipers I got from the UK. Ended up being about $2200-2300 for the pair after shipping, from APMotorsports. Same with the bobbins. Shipping took all of 2-3 days.

Rotors I got from Flatirons tuning, though I think they just dropshipped from Essex.

Best lap from my last day at Road America

I ran two days over a weekend, almost always with a passenger (even more weight!), and brakes were strong and consistent the whole time.
Pads still have well over half thickness left, with 3 days total on two really brake-abusive tracks. For comparison, my old Akebonos were going through pads to the backing plate before the end of their second track day!
Rotors looking healthy, no signs of failure anytime soon.

DarkJak 11-01-2021 06:09 PM

Bump, have 1 set left. Anything beyond this will require a longer wait time for manufacturing.

I was able to drop prices on my part of the kit because I found slightly cheaper shipping.
On the other hand, my pricing on the full kit with me sourcing calipers and rings didn't account for recent price increases on those parts and merchant fees so I had to adjust that up a bit. Still cheaper by a lot if you source yourself, since I have to double ship and go through two sets of credit card fees (mine plus AP Motorsport's).

1 set left!
I'll eventually get another batch made but not until next year due to a tight budget this month and next.

Errggg….want is real, but not my time yet. GLWS. Congrats to whoever buys this last set. I’m jealous.

I got the entire kit from the seller.
The fitment is awesome!!! Clear my v1 nismo wheel without any problem.
Each caliper is about 4lb lighter than stock Akebono. Pads are about twice the thickness.
Definitely recommended for whoever track their frequently.

Had a crazy busy month, so totally missed these pics, but man it is satisfying to see them on another car! I'm glad you were able to get them all installed already, and hope to see some updates on how you like them next time you have a track day!

EDIT:
Still have 1 left.
Am planning another small batch for spring next year, if it sells.

DarkJak 12-30-2021 08:34 PM

Last one sold!
If you are interested for the spring, let me know, so I can plan out another run.

Can you post your #, I'd like to message you directly about this. We have a Stillen Radi-Cal setup which is discontinued, but we need rotor replacements. We have the templates for the 370x36 and 360x28 rotors, but Essex won't tell us which blanks to use for replacements. (they're anti anything having to do with Stillen's prior setups)

If you have the rotor templates, talk to Alex at Brypar in Sydney (Australia). He can match pretty much any rotor and rotor hat.

www.brypar.com or facebook.com/brypar they do a lot of motorsport rotors for the Oz GT3 championship and lots of top line race series here.

If you do not want the cost that comes with AP rotor rings, OR someone like BRYPAR to make some from their own blanks. then the VE and VF Holden Commodore HSV came with AP 6-pot calipers and DBA do a 5000-series rotor ring to suit (368mm (14.5") x 32mm. I know you wanted 36mm fronts. but the DBA's could be an option.

Check out DBA performance catalog available to download here:https://dba.com.au/dba-catalogues/do...df-catalogues/

I can see at row 120 on page 17 of the performance catalogue there is a 370x36mm rotor ring

The alternative is to go to AP in the UK as their 14.5" x 36mm is here:
https://apracing.com/race-car/brake-...36mm-thickness

Part no (left and right) is CP5772-6072/6073

Details: https://apracing.com/race-car/brake-...p5772-60726073

I think you can invite Essex to "go forth and multiply". Similar research required for rears.

Great info man, thank you for this. We're okay paying for AP's, the Jhood rotors are amazing, its just trying to find a direct replacement has been difficult since Stillen lost the contract and Essex took over. All the brackets were proprietary to Stillen, so Essex has has to "start over" with the kits, which they aren't using the same sizes.

We have all the templates PDF's for wheel fitments for clients, so should help with the rotor info.

DarkJak 06-30-2022 04:55 PM

I had someone who wanted a set, so I had another small batch made.
I have two sets extra, ready to ship immediately!
Prices for manufacturing rose a tiny bit, and shipping as well, since last time, but I'll honor my previous price here through July 4.

Right now, CP9668 caliper prices are cheaper than ever thanks to exchange rates, so I highly encourage taking advantage of that through APMotorsports or Demon Tweeks.

DarkJak 07-25-2022 02:32 PM

Bump! Also, I totally missed the previous posts here. The Stillen Street Radical kits used rotor rings that are near impossible to find now.

Paragon has a couple:
https://paragonbrakes.com/370mm-roto...6mm-thickness/
They are lower vane count than most newer AP Rings (48 vs 72).
Can also change to 372x34 with new hats and a 1mm spacer on the brackets. I think losing 2mm of air gap would be worth it. Might even be able to use the hats I already made for this kit.

DarkJak 08-03-2022 02:51 PM

BUMP, have two sets of this kit around. It's been a big upgrade for anyone coming from the Akebonos and feedback's been great so far! Caliper prices are also super low right now thanks to how strong the dollar is against the euro.
