I think after test driving a M4, I will wait for the M2 if it is available with X-Drive.
The 4 series is almost too long and the 2 series is almost too short aesthetics-wise, but both are great looking IMO. Good luck in your decision! |

http://stfoto.smugmug.com/Cars/2013-...ds-9559-X1.jpg It's a great car! Obviously it feels bigger/softer than the M235i, but it is a lot of fun and very practical. It's what warmed me up to BMW in the first place. My wife wanted a new car and originally had her heart set on the S4/S5, but she liked driving the 335 more. |
Haha awesome! Damn that's the exact color I would get too. Well hey if you ever sell that car just know I'm interested!
|
I just built this model on the BMW site that I like at it totaled $54,040.......Nice cute car but not for that kind of money.
|
In reality you should expect to pay around 5-8% off MSRP on one. My build would end up somewhere in the upper 40s. Still a lot of money, but I do feel like you get quite a bit of car.
I think until you actually get behind the wheel and spend some time in one it might be hard to justify if you are just looking at specs and price. |
I purchased 14 demo(loaded pkg wise/900miles) at year end. I paid 10k less than the one Tadpole spec'd. Win!

I did find one in Katy Texas for 53K but Im a wuss and dont want to spend that kind of money. I about had a coronary when I bought my Z. |
Great convo guys thanks...
I've called BMW and was told at March 2016 for M2 Production.. I suggested $55K and the gentlemen said "I'd agree with your number".. thats good! I think I'm going to wait for the M2 as it gets me closer to the sexy lines that I want with a sweet little plus... more power - lol I love discussing and hearing other peoples views on different cars.. There are so many good things.. It realy just comes down to application. The 370z suspension's is great but not so cool with these NY State roads where I live... The twisty back roads are just so bumpy by me... Again keep the convo going and what experiences you've had while driving the M235i.. |
well, the 2 isn't the smoothest suspension. NY roads would be pretty rough in it I think, even in comfort mode. I prefer the firm ride myself, but it is pretty stiff.

Relative to the Z, though, it feels smoother over rough surfaces. It's stiff, but not harsh. I suspect the M2 will add some of that harshness back in.

Never seen 'Smoking Tire' They review the M235i. Seems positive. MotorTrend M235i vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPy0T3Fojt0 - Start at 639 for the Randy Pobst drive/commentary then a lap. Take a look at the times near the end for other cars tested. My soon to be in my hands new WRX-STi didnt do badly either lol! :) |
I saw that one the other day. It's a shame the car was on the RFTs!

Owned a '09 Z for almost 4 years and have had a Estoril Blue M235xi for almost a month. It is fantastic! I was trying to find something that was a combination of fast and fun like the Z, but with back seats, quiet, comfortable, AWD daily driver like my old '13 Chrysler 300S AWD. And the M235xi has delivered in spades. True the Z has more direct steering with more feel, but the BMW makes up for that by being more agile, better balanced, just more "cohesive". You want to just throw it around. And the power...just hauls a$$ from almost off idle.
Now the Z has some emotional appeal over the BMW: loved the sound of my Berk CBE, loved sitting in the cockpit, and it just is a fantastic looking car. But when you combine the driver dynamics with the livability of the BMW - I'm very satisfied. Really sucks to sell my Z, but I sold it to a friend I work with so I still get to see it all the time :) BTW, yes even with xdrive order the summer tires (no cost option) so you get the slightly wider rear wheel and top speed limiter set higher. Get some good all seasons for winter and leave the PSS for summer duties. Sometime in May me and my buddy are taking both cars to the track to compare them side by side. Hopefully we'll get some good video we can post here. |
