Planning to sell my Z. What to get?

Hi guys,

First off, happy new year! I'm thinking of selling my Z and need help in deciding what to get next.

1. New Corvette.
2. New Porsche Carrera 4S
3. Used Gallardo
4. New or used R8(depends if I stretch my budget then I go new -> this is what the wife wants to get)

I'm looking at the Carrera 4S as it's within the budget range. I do not know how reliable a used 05/06 Gallardo would be(read scary maintenance costs), the new Vette is cheaper too so it works well for my budget, and the R8 is a bit of a stretch if I get it new. Budget is around 90k - 100k max.

I am not thinking of getting a GTR. The looks don't appeal to me. :)

Thanks guys!

What's your criteria for your next ride? Daily driver or weekend car? Have you test driven them?

falconfixer 01-02-2014 06:50 PM

Wheelbarrow. Another thread already hashed this out.

oh and in for the comedy and hate posts to start.:stirthepot:

alexanderb 01-02-2014 06:51 PM

This will not be a daily driver. I have not test driven them and probably will not be able to as I live all the way here in Manila and will be importing the car just like I did the Z. I never test drove the Z and it turned out great!

If anyone can point me to this thread that would be great. I tried looking but could not find it.

Thanks!

A Carrera 4s is over $100k.

Only if you option it out a lot. I did a quick spec and mine came out to 105 which is not much more. That's if you get the base model though without optioning it out. I could live with 5K more I guess. But the Carrera 4 is around 90k only so maybe that would be a better option...

Maserati Spyder.

Mods, if that happens to this thread please feel free to close it.

Can't afford the V10... :(

/Angelo350Z/ 01-02-2014 07:29 PM

Carrera 4S, though I prefer just the S. Good luck.

LMBmikeZ 01-02-2014 08:06 PM

I see a prius C7 vette in your future!

zefaulter 01-02-2014 08:50 PM

R8 for sure. If you want cheaper, corvette. I would definitely not get the Lamborghini

TheGreatOne 01-02-2014 09:00 PM

How often will it be driven?

When I was in Vegas in November I got to drive a 2010 Gallardo LP560 but unfortunately did not get to drive the R8.

I was surprised at how civilized the Lambo was, I preferred it over the Ferrari 458. Love them both.

Even though I have not driven an R8, I think still given the choice I would pick one...but you really want to get the V10 when getting it.

Whats important to you? The looks or performance?

2010 R8 I think is very do able in your price range

Gadgetech 01-02-2014 09:04 PM

I'd go R8 or Corvette out of your list.

Have you considered a Viper SRT10?
Out of your options I would go with the R8 hands down.

Totally agree with you. Can't stand it when guys with big budget have small self assurance and conviction that they have to ask other's to help them decide. Dude - make you're own decision.

I think the majority of these type threads are not so much a "help me decide" as much as a "look at how much money I have" thread.
I would never look to an internet forum for insight in such a major purchase, much less throw my wallet on the table. Just my $.02

So, it's perfectly okay for someone to come here to ask about trying to decide between an Evo and a Mustang, or to get some opinions as which modification to do next, but if he has a bit bigger budget he now has "small self assurance and conviction"? That's a pretty douchy comment in my opinion. This is a car forum isn't it? Plus the OP already said he can't easily test drive the cars due to his location.

To the OP, I've driven 3 of the 4 cars on your list. Bang for the buck the C7 wins hands down in my book and they may be pretty rare where you live. You can get one loaded for well under your budget and some cam, intake exhaust and reflash work can get you 550+hp pretty easy. The C7 is light years better than the C6. If your budget is a firm one, hard to go wrong with the C7.

I think the Porsche is the best all around car (money not factored in) they are really nice to drive, much more refined than the C7, just plain good at everything. All that being said, if money weren't a consideration, the R8 would be my choice. A good friend has one and its is really sweet. Haven't driven or ridden in your 4th car so I can't really comment there. It certainly would be the most rare of the four cars (where I live anyway). In the end though you'd be fortunate to own any of those thoroughbred cars.

Also, if you really want a shot at some feedback I would suggest joining the Rennlist forum. It has about 75,000 members and you are more likely to get info from people that have driven/ridden in your list of cars though it's likely to be a bit 911 biased for obvious reasons. My experience has been they will tend to be much less judgmental about high dollar purchases than this forum will be. Good luck.

Very well put.

Riptide67 01-03-2014 01:22 PM

With your money and your taste, I'd have the R8.

Chuck33079 01-03-2014 01:23 PM

A Used Audi? Imported so the local dealer has little to no experience fixing it? What could possibly go wrong?

Jordo! 01-03-2014 01:54 PM

Take the money out of the off-shore account and put it into a Porsche

Red C7. Those things look hot! But I heard there is a premium on the C7, is that true?

This is true!! However it also depends on the dealership.

There it is that new viper. Pics don't do it justice.
But out of choices and best all around would be the carrera.

Thank you mts for the great feedback. This is exactly what I am looking for.

Due to my location, some of the cars above are not available in the local market and feedback from people that have actual experience in driving them are a big help for me. :)

Thanks again! Reps sent!

falconfixer 01-03-2014 07:54 PM

It's obvious you have a lot of disposable income to throw away on a $100K car without even driving it. Why not book a plane ticket from your location to Las Vegas and rent those for the day? That way you can at least drive something comparable, if not identical to the car you want and decide that way instead of asking some of us common folk what to do with your money.

Theres some good advice.
Figure that someone who has this kind of coin for a car.........
1. Is college educated, and should be able to make sound decisions on their own...
2. If not college educated, Is smart enough to make that kind of "play money" by hook or by crook (either way, kudos) and shouldn't need our advice...
3. Married money (in which case should be asking her, not us)
4. Just hit the lottery, and needs an accountant.
5. None of the above, and just has priorities fu#$ed up.

Whatever you decide, my friend, good luck and enjoy it....all your choices should be a blast to drive.:tiphat:

Not douchy at all. Not apologizing for how it came across either. It is big boy advice. If you're spending that amount of money, do your own homework and not rely on people you do not know. I would also make a decision based on hands on experience. There are cars out where he lives and can make connections with people who has these cars. Connect with them. Going back to buyer's remorse where people make bad decisions because of feedback from the internet. Buying a 6 figure car is not something I would rely on forum members to make. My .02 cents on darn 6 figure purchase.
