Report: Honda Mulls Bold Answer to Scion FR-S
Honda’s plan, according to GTChannel’s sources, is to take the happy associations headed the FR-S’s way and channel them into its own little ride, in this case a convertible similar to the celebrated Honda S2000. However, this rear-wheel sports car would be lighter and, at $20,000, much more affordable. The S2000, like the Scion FR-S, had a base model weight around 2,800 pounds; the theoretical new Honda sports car would weigh only 2,000 pounds. Taking this figure into account, the horsepower quote sounds impressive.

Idiots should have never walked away from the game...they could have still been holding it down. But hope they can come back strong. Thanks for sharing the info...still a diehard Honda lover.

$35k for a base S2000 in 2009 with 239hp, 163ft/lbs of tq 2755lbs, with a near 50:50 weight distribution Toyota is asking $25-26k for a base Scion with 200hp, 151ft/lbs of tq, almost the exact same weight and the same 50:50 weight distribution, and that's 3-4 years later of inflation... Something doesn't add up to me in Honda's world. And normally I'm bisaed because I love Toyota, but damn I hate the FRS... |
I have the s2000 as my DD, and I love it, im looking forward to seeing this new sports coupe.

I'm also a Toyota Fan and my first new car was a 1986 Toyota Corolla SR-5 because the GTS was very limited in my country. |
Where the yen was and how the economy was the last 5yrs, I don't think Honda taking a break from this segment was a bad business decision.
Hope they bring back something real exciting... not like that crz crap. :ugh: |

Also s2000 markup was like 31k at the most and dropped to a very great price. Also as a track car or project car it's been great. Some of those supra and ls swaps were nuts. |
Scion and Subaru aren't really doing much with these cars except making overpriced body kits and lame parts. Scion sales still down in spite of. The twins do nothing for me, honestly. If honda can bring true affordable fun back I the $20k range? That would change the sports car game aagain...
Honda should ha e never strayed from performance from jump. |
If they want to be at 2000 lbs for only $20,000 they either have a magic (cheap) new technique for fiber/composite, or they need to take a competitive approach to the safety and emissions rules. Find some loopholes or start cheating.

The only 2 sport coupes that come to mind are the Honda Beat or the Crz roadster.
But I have a feeling their talking about the S1500. Seen here: SCOOP: HONDA WORKING ON RWD COMPACT SPORTS CAR | GT Channel Seems pretty weak to me 132hp lol! They should have put in a K series Si motor. |

The s2000 was marketed to a much more upscale crowd of driving enthusiasts compared to the FRS |

Yup that’s it the S1500. I still am a big Honda fan. But just wish it came with a little more juice. Has anybody seen the new Honda Beat its cool looking I can’t upload pics via my work computer (its yellow as well).

my 5MT Fitsport can zip up to 60mph with its lawnmower engine in mid/low7sec on a cold day (faster than BRZ by half car lengh). that vert at near 2000lbs will probably do 6sec. plenty fast for me. |

I love all sorts of cars... not really a fan boy tho |

All I’m saying is that if the S2K was 240hp the Si is 201hp give it at least 180hp or retro Si of 160hp. Either way I’m glad Honda has several convertibles in there line up (S1500, Crz Roadster and the Beat) I Wonder which vert will have the upper hand.

should feel right at home next to my Z, i thinks. :D |
looks like they mocked up the discontinued saturn/pontiac convertible to me with honda symbols.

The throwback front end is great!

or pontiac solaris

Considering this would slot in price-wise below the Miata, how much car would you really be getting? I've got nothing against Miatas, but it's not like the market is looking for a vert for people who don't want the raw power of a MX-5.

more so the pontiac solstice... i just listed them both since they were sister cars with the same motor. especially from that back/quarter view

i like that blue.

At least we know Honda doesn't have to make an original design in order to sell cars. Just use GM designs with a shyttier front and pull colors from the crayola test belt and Honda is good to go. In idealogical concept I like the idea of that car... That design in yellow or blue, thy sucketh.
Phooey. |

i still can't see the resemblance.... but anyway, i like that S1.5K. :D
