Like I said, it's basically a rebadged Commodore, a car that has been around since the late 70's, early 80's. The design of this car is rooted from the past models, including the HSV variants, which makes it an Australian design rather than American. This is actually closer to a working man's 5 series, rather than an M5. It shares the same GM Zeta platform as the Camaro. With the Corvette and Camaro in the stable, I really don't see a point to this car.

I do. Four doors.

different places, different purposes.

I'll take one of each, please

That's true. If they price this thing in the mid $30k range as some rumors suggest, it's going to be a performance bargain.

It's definitely not a bad looking sedan, that's for sure. If I were to ever get married and have kids, she'd have to buy something like this. :p

:iagree:

It's an average sedan that suprisingly puts it down on the track. And if it comes in the mid $30k's like the old G8 did? It will be a bargain for sure?

I loved the GTO and G8. This looks pretty cool.

That's because they stuck with a simple, rewarding formula: V8, large displacement for block size, cam-in-block designs.

My 427ci Z06 still got way better mileage than my 370Z gets. 500+ hp, too, out of an engine that weighs only around 450# intake to pan. Take a look at the G8, and other cars that use the LS series, and you will find them very heavy on power and light on gas. Ford screwed up until the Coyote came out in 2011YM cars. Noone else was even close, with LS1 late 90's vehicles mopping the floor with anything under $60K MSRP until here just recently.

Now GM has figured out competent suspensions, as well, and is setting 'Ring lap records, etc.

Recently evidenced, they are beginning to understand that people occupy the INSIDE of a vehicle!

Say what you want, but I own part of GM as an American Tax Payer, and whether I ever own another one or not, I damn well want them to succeed and make money hand over fist---because I paid into that company, and I want them to feed the economy and not squander it!

I agree with all of this.

They've had a few "concepts" at SEMA by some resourceful customizers. ....interesting, but it needs to be it's own design and not a face transplant.

I like that article posted about the niche market for the SS. I'd have to agree with that. It's interesting, but the problem (as others have brought up) is that it looks as boring as any other car on the road. Sure it can be a sleeper performer, but it's just unfortunate it doesn't look prettier. No one's going to fap to this other than those who are stuck with this as their best option (family hauler).

Then again, if it did look better, why have the other cars in the stable?

It does, though, provide for a nice fleet car.

Everyone is missing the obvious fact that Chevrolet lost a lot of the police market back in the 90's when they killed their Caprice/Impala SS. They have been trying to get it back ever since, and recently have been making serious progress on that front.

get rid of the chevy emblem and it may not look bad, overall its pretty plan

UNKNOWN_370 03-30-2013 08:04 AM

I see this being a HIT with the police.

m4a1mustang 03-30-2013 08:06 AM

The police have the Caprice.

6.0l V8 is an option.
