83 MPG cars available in the UK True or False

Hi to everyone, a couple weeks ago I seen a 5 Gear test on a ford fiesta that was reported to getting 42-83 mpg, it was equiped with a 1.0

Default 83 MPG cars available in the UK True or False

Hi to everyone, a couple weeks ago I seen a 5 Gear test on a ford fiesta that was reported to getting 42-83 mpg, it was equiped with a 1.0 liter engine that was supposed be pretty fast for its size and it may be a diesel.

I alo did a google search and came up finding these posted UK results and most of the cars are getting double what, their USA models are getting.

So are we getting really screwed in the USA or is there MPG rating not really in miles per gallon.

It's IMPERIAL gallons... 4.546 liters or 1.2 gallons, so you have to readjust the numbers...

I did a research project on this... YES we are getting screwed, BIG time, and most of their cars are turbo diesel...


The highest miles per tank was done in the US with a 4 banger TDI VW Jetta... Second is a 3 banger TDI VW Polo whatever, lol


The 3 cylinder got better MPG, but the acceleration is SLOW... Pry-us slow

Here is a usa to uk mpg converter link MPG US to MPG UK Converter - Miles Per Imperial Gallon to Miles Per US Gallon Conversion

So it seems 83 mpg in the UK is equal to about 70 mpg in the USA, so it does seem we are getting screwed in the USA on high MPG cars

Yeah, no doubt... If/when VW makes a 3 cylinder TDI hybrid, the game will be over, they will average like 100+ US MPG, and the CO2 emissions of diesels aren't bad either... Issue is that CA doesn't want to import them much because they never have to undergo emissions, yeah, NO hybrid has to in CA, but TDI + hybrid is hesitant because you can either do a swap and/or if anything goes wrong with the cats, the diesels will pollute a lot more than gas engines...

AND CA usually is the deciding factor with hypermile-ing cars... Because we buy soooooo damn many of them... And ALMOST EVERY car is CA emissions approved because CA just buys so many cars...

Don't forget the testing standard is completely different between the 2 countries. After adjusting for Imperial gallon, the Honda Fit gets 43 mpg combined UK vs 31 mpg combined US. It's the exact same car, but tested differently.

So, if you combine all of these factors (Imperial gallon, testing standard, using smaller engines) you get a big discrepancy. Unless you live in the city, 1.0 liter is too small for 70 mph America. That's why it's not offered here.

Yeah, the turbo diesels in Europe are waaayyyyy better than the crap they sell here.
