Yeah I've sat in a GT-R going faster than 112 mph........

But yeah, this is old news. This has been going on since the GTR came out.

Seriosusly, here's your car that does 100mph in the blink of an eye, but we don't want you doing that anywhere RESPONSIBLY :wtf2:

Doesn't that get you to think why would they manufacture cars that can be driven more then let say 75mph when most highway the speed limit is 65mph? Maybe someday they will so no more speeding tickets.

That would ruin motorsports as we know it.

Yeah, but, nobody should using the 370's VDC on a track. It builds bad habits and hides errors at the very beginning, and then it gets in the way and gets flat-out dangerous as you move up in skill. Instructors should always tell you to turn it off, even at a beginning HPDE level... (although they might term it a mere recommendation and leave it up to you, so that they don't get some noob yelling at them that they wrecked their car and it's all the instructor's fault for telling them to turn off VDC. Never forget: your car, your responsibility. Their input doesn't mean they're responsible for *anything*).

ok im talking about the GTR not the Z .. completely different animals as far has how the VDC works..the entire way the GTR is set up to work is configured around VDC being on or in R mode. its not a baby sitter in the GTR. With VDC R you can get the backend out and even 4 wheel drift corners.. it has nothing to do really with driver skill as its not intrusive enough unless you are at the 99th percential of skill level and are competing in time attack or something. for intermeidate and even up drivers with stock power there is really never a reason to run it off as turning it off takes away the built in failsafes they have for the AWD system. the GTR does not like mismatched wheelspin from different axels. the VDC on will detect this and limit the power to protect the car.. just a few weeks ago we had a guy get denied warranty for his transmission.. i thought that was odd as the denials are few and far between these days.. turns out he was on the skidpad ( drifting sliding doughnuts whatever) with VDC off.. thats the #1 no no on this car. the new 2012/2013s wont even launch with VDC off

Oh, what would you know about GTR's?

I mean, other than you owning a few over time, tracking one, and administering a forum devoted to them?

Other than all that, what makes you think you know anything about them?

So are you saying the VDC for the Z is a babysitter??

cossie1600 09-07-2012 06:40 PM

Yes, the 370's VDC is more intrusive than my Prius, that's how bad it is

ehh not really im just saying like when i would autoX them and stuff i would turn it off (never on the street though thats just dumb) but with the GTR its supposed to stay on pretty much as all times as it interacts with the car very differently than the Z. with the Z its like an afterthought or an added bonus its we built this nice handling RWD car and we added VDC to it to make it safer.. with the GTR they whole car was pretty much built around the system as its sort of like the mother brain.

so saying its a babysitter is derogatory, and thats not what im getting at. its just VDC is an integral part of the GTR the Z could live without it to more of an extent. the diffs will sort out a lot of what you are doing with or without VDC thats true and if your going to be breaking the next record at the ring you might benefit with it off for a super aggressive style but your average owner up to occasional weekend warrior its probably in their best interest to leave it on for the sake of the car the warranty and themselves

ive never turned VDC off on any of my GTRs for the last 4 years and ive done autoX track and the strip regularly its not intrusive at all in race mode it will let you slide all over the place.

now all that is said based on a GTR with stock or stockish power behaves..once these guys start tuning the ECU and TCM with all this and that its a different story and thats not really my scene

Driving a GTR on the track does not void the warranty in any way. but while you are on the track anything that breaks that can be determined that the tracking was the cause will not be covered if there is a warranty claim. thats a common sense policy and most high manufacturers have it.

not turning VDC off is probably the single most important thing when wanting to maintain a warranty even more so than modding

absolutely false

a lot of misinformation in this thread
