New candidate for DD...
Ford Focus ST......R&T and Top Gear seem quite impressed.

If I were in the market for another vehicle to take over DD duties, this would be at the top of a very short list. If they offered it in an AWD versioni, I would probably sell my Z for it. :icon17:

I was convincing the hell out of my friend to wait for this car but he ended up snagging a 13 genesis 2.0t. Can't really blame him.

I've been looking pretty hard at the ST for quite awhile now, pretty damn good performance and economy, these are available in Germany in an AWD version, why the FVCK wont they release that in the states?

Sporty RS Based On 2012 Ford Focus May Get Hybrid AWD System As far as the ST, it almost exactly matches the Mazdaspeed 3 (even has the same frame, I believe). If you've looked at what the tuners have done to that platform, it's nothing short of amazing what a few dollars can buy you in performance. I'd assume a higher volume Ford product would be even better in a year or two. |
if they release it in AWD in the USA, and it still gets decent mileage, I'd toss the WRX for it :rofl2:
|
This really is a fun segment, the FWD performance hatch. The MS3, the GTI, now the ST, you could even throw the Mini in there for hoots.
When you consider the price point, this is a lot of fun and practicality for the dollar. An AWD version would compete with the Golf R and WRX, and I'd expect it to be priced between them. All things being equal, the WRX is probably the best performance for money buy. |

Mazdaspeed 3 has been here for years and is based on same platform. |

Still, going to go test drive these :) I tested an MS3 back in 2010. Was fun, but I liked the slower GTI better. We'll see what's what in 2013  |

That is what this will be positioned against, and that segment seems to sell pretty well. Hatches are versatile daily drivers that one can later tune and take to the track. And suped up Focus cars sell lot hotcakes in Europe. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. |
Just saw a pic of one in white......wasn't considering that color. Now?.......promising.

Looks pretty damn good. I didn't like that orangy-yellow they kept showing it off in.
