Which sports sedan would you choose?
Wife and I are having a baby girl in Sep, we might need to trade in the Z for something bigger. The cars I am looking at right now are 09 Maxima sv, 09 TL or 08 TL type s. No more than $25,000. Can you guys give me some pros & cons of those three cars or any other suggestion on different cars.
Thanks |
If you want to stay with Nissan, the Maxima is a nice full-size sedan.
There are many used sports sedans on the market. I'd look around on Craigslist to see what fits your budget. You might miss rear-wheel drive if you went w/ a Maxima. Maybe an Infiniti or BMW ? |
also, moved to "other vehicles" |

In my opinion there is much better choices
Infiniti,BMW,Lexus GS But out of the ones you have mentioned,in this order 2009 Acura TL- i have owned this...not bad 2008 TL type S -Seems dated now 09 Maxima Others cars I would consider...2011-Kia Optima SX Turbo,2011 VW Passat CC. Our 11 month is fine in the back of our Optima...and its got almost 300 ponies |

At 25k and needing a 4-door sedan I would look no further than a brand new WRX. The new WRX can be had at 25k, is nearly as fast as the 370z to begin wiht, has plenty of rear and trunk space, looks far more sporty than the other cars you mentioned, and can be modded for pretty cheap. I mean the cars you mentioned are decent but I wouldn't consider any of them sports or performance sedans. I do think the optima turbo is a good option though but would still opt for the WRX first.

WRX is not as large inside as the TL or Maxima. Not as plush and cozy.
My friend Jay has a Max. It is very comfy and flies around bends. |
look into some used G35/G37 sedans. Nice cars and rear wheel drive ;)

Quick, good looking car. Fun to drive, too. |
Mine will be riding in the Z when I can get the babyseat in

Yes i have a 2012...274 hp,10 year warranty, every option imagineable, one of the best looking cars on the road in my opinion...with that being said would i trade it for my Z?Never, would i have one as a family hauler yes I think the key selling point was the 4 cylinder turbo engine,we average about 450 miles to the tank, also has a Eco mode for city driving, great gas mileage for a family sedan thats almost as quick as my Z,oh yeah and do not forget it takes regular fuel not premiuim Quote:

I've found a 08 335i loaded with 50k miles for $23999. Probably can get it down to $22500. Does that sound like a decent deal?

i have a 2011 maxima, and traded my OTHER 2011 maxima on my z. very reliable, blindingly fast, comfortable as hell, lots of room. a lot of folks are liking that new optima, and i suppose its an option if you dont mind the resale value in the toilet. nissan did a great job minimizing torque steer for the new maximas, so fwd isnt a real bother
|
by the way, there is a good reason you wont find many used 09-2012 maximas for sale...

A used G37 would fall right into your price range. Interior is very comfy and driving is close to the Z, just with 400 extra lbs.
|
I would also look at the g8 gt.

Have a 10' Maxima myself, great overall car, quick, sporty, comfortable, quality. And it actually has a lot of room compared to all the competition. Huge trunk and great amount of leg room in the front and rear. The Infiniti's are very tight on the inside. I recommend one.

anybody have experience with the 09 G35x awd ?
|
I love my Fusion Sport and I'm sure you could get a used one in that price range. It's got AWD. 3.5L. It's a fun car. Ford has stepped up their game
|
The current Maxima is really awesome.
Do note that the SE has a rear STB so you lose the drop down rear seats which can come handy for a family. |

You mentioned you worried about maintenance costs down the road. Most definitely, an Infiniti G will be cheaper to maintain than a BMW 3-series. Would you prefer a turbo-charged engine or naturally aspirated one ( 335i vs. G35/G37 ) ? I'd also test drive a Mercedes C-class: this C230 would be quick, have 4 doors, offer good value for a used car. Mercedes-Benz : C230 SPORT Sport Mercedes-Benz : C230 SPORT Sport | eBay |

I have a 08 g35x and love it. The 09 will be the g37x and has a 7 speed auto instead of the 5 speed auto in mine. Personally I like the 5 speed better for spirited driving and the 7 speed gets a little better mileage. Mine averages about 21-22 combo/rush hour driving while the 7 speed loaner I had got around 24.

love the 335i

So, i am getting really close on replacing my Z :shakes head: with a family sedan which i am looking at a 08 G35 sports and a 09 G37 journey. After doing some research, i've found that the problem with AC compressor in later gen G35 is pretty bad. Can anybody who has own g35 sedan before tell me what other problems I should also watch out for. Also, are there any common known issues with G37 so far?
Thanks guys:tiphat: |

I'd stay away from the kias/hyundais. It's pretty sheet metal, but crappy chassis/driveline. They're nothing more than sporty looking sedans. Nothing sporty about the driving experience if you're used to a 370z.
|
That's cool you've narrowed down to G35/37. I like the G37 IPL coupe, but sedan is for the Family . . .
|
Infiniti G37 if you can find one at your price range. VQ motor mounted in a 4 door rocket. I've got one so I'm biased. Got all the amenities that your wife and baby will love. If you can find a G37x it would be great. The only thing is you're only tranny choice is an auto. But with an AWD VQ, who cares.
