What do you guys think?

Future Vehicles: 2015 Ford Mustang

LakeShow 05-09-2012 05:30 PM

Looks like they are stealing styling cues from the 370z. Fat rear fenders, more rounded bubbly figure design unlike current and past straight line and boxy design, long sweeping rear glass to trunk. Definitely looks like a good amount of similarities in shape of the 370z.

djpathfinder 05-09-2012 05:32 PM

The front grille and headlights make me think Aston Martin (remotely). But concept drawings can be quite inaccurate to what the production model will look like.

tomnavone 05-09-2012 05:34 PM

Needs vossen wheels

But that render looks like a Jaguar.

I don't like car mag renders. They're always bits and pieces of other existing models.

LakeShow 05-10-2012 12:04 AM

Just a rendering. Probably will not look anything like that.

+1, no sense even commenting one way or the other.

I think they used design cues from the Taurus for this one to make it more sleek looking. Like everyone else said, final version will Probably Look very different

This is the Evos Concept, which these renders are all based on:

http://uncrate.com/p/2011/09/ford-evos-concept-xl.jpg

The new Mustang is supposed to take styling cues from this concept. But like all previous Mustangs it will have a long hood and a short deck lid, so it will look a little different.

 That does look similar

What I'm looking forward to is that it will be a minimum of 250 lbs lighter than current (3,600 lbs). Ford just announced two days ago that they have a partnership with DOW Chemical to develop/produce automotive-grade carbon composites for use in mass-produced vehicles.

This just further backs up Ford's stated goal of reducing weight for all new models by 250-750lbs under the model it replaces. In fact, any new model does not get approved unless it meets this criteria.

Given the new Mustang will be closer in exterior dimension to the SN95 platform, I think they might cut the weight by even more than 250lbs.

Like them or not they are advancing and this is good for the industry as a whole.

With cars like this coming down the pipeline, Ford just keeps making me more and more proud.

sfearl1 05-10-2012 08:41 AM

i actually like the concept rendering...

flashburn 05-10-2012 08:46 AM

Not that I've ever really cared for the looks of the Mustang, but that just doesn't look like a Mustang should.

It won't look exactly like that, but it's definitely going to look different. I'm sure a lot of older fans will be alienated but Ford feels like to keep the brand going they need to appeal to the younger generations as well. It will definitely have a modern look and feel to it. We'll see how it turns out in a couple years.

Yes, as soon as I finish this hot tub time machine.

06_footy 05-10-2012 12:13 PM

I really hope they don't as drastic as the rendering shows. Its abit too much too soon if you ask me. The reason I bought my mustang was it reminded me of the 69' fastback with its sharp edges. Hopefully the don't completely kill the look or we'll have the likes of the mustang II on our hands.

Vanilla Ice called...he wants his car back!

Rooster89 05-10-2012 04:19 PM

There seems to be two major parties when it comes to this. The older folks who love the retro design and say that an evos based mustang will kill the mustang, and the younger folks who say to compete the mustang needs to evolve drastically.

Yall should see the drama about it on certain other mustang forums.

Either way, prolly gonna end up with one as long as its nice and aston martinish like the evos

gr8-wrx 05-10-2012 04:31 PM

Looks okay. But will probably not be any more of a collectable than the 40th anniversary Mustang :)

6MT 05-10-2012 04:40 PM

I like it! Big improvement over the current design. :bowrofl:

^^^ A Mustang isn't a Mustang without louvers. LOL

m4a1mustang 05-10-2012 04:52 PM

Say no to louvers.

Dallaz 05-10-2012 05:06 PM

Looks more like a Z's platform than a mustangs! Looks like a cheap Aston Martin actually

Edit: just read through all the posts, I guess that's just the general consensus!

mjd77 05-10-2012 05:51 PM

I'd be careful with this if I was Ford...at stake is a huge customer base of Mustang fans that they can't afford to lose. Anything too drastic and they could be in big trouble. Not much of anything about that concept screams Mustang and/or musclecar. But...having said that, the very first blue pic in this thread seems like it could grow on me.

murphman 05-10-2012 05:51 PM

I cant hate on ford for an aston martin style front end as I love me some Aston but damnnnnnn 2 new cars now? First the new fusion now the next gen mustang?

At some point people are going to think Aston copied Fords styling

Read a stat somewhere that said the average age of a current Mustang buyer is 51....That's getting into Corvette territory!

For me, if it weighs less, retains power, and gets a decent IRS....It's all win!

Ford has to attract a new demographic of buyer, and Gen Y hasn't been too friendly to mustang sales.
