The new V6 Mustang is actually pretty sweet as far as the aftermarket goes.

Take the 114mph limiter off and the engine goes to shyt amongst other issues with tuning though.

Driveshaft, sure. Not the engine.....

Yup. The guys that mod them usually replace the drive shaft then they can go however fast the car can safely.

Boosted the engines are making 450whp safely. The limit is 500+ on stock internals after a while. Someone just blew up at 550whp after 5-6 months.

Finally a sane comment

No tune issues either unless the tune is no good... and that is a risk with any car.

Not bashing the v6 stang. Just my opinion though. I really wouldn't want a stock car that is limited to 114mph, without a limiter hits 130mph and with extensive modification can hit 155mph to 160 tops. Not my cup of tea.

I understand. The limiter is set there for the drive shaft, though. Replace it and you're only limitation is your tires. To keep the v6 price down Ford compromised with a single piece shaft susceptible to some gnarly harmonics at high speed.

In retrospect though... the mustang v6 makes the perfect entry level tuner car with guys that want to enter the sport.

Yeah it used to not be that way at all!

Weird. I rarely see any FWD cars converted to RWD...

Yes there are still quirks in some fords, but not enough to call it unreliable to the same degree as once before. Although the v6 mustang is the anti-tuner car. The GT has proven to be up there in quality. By 2015. I expect all models to meet the standards of germany and japan. Ford is doing better in quality than GM and chrysler thus far.

you're right, gm and chrysler are falling behind in comparison to ford IMHO. i dont think ford is done failing, however, lol. from 2003 to 2007, f250, f350, f450, f550, and ford excursions with the 6.0 power stroke diesel engine have had tons of recorded issues with:

engine failure
engine gad recirculation (egr) valve and cooler failure
failure of injectors
failure of head gaskets
loss of engine power
engine coolant entering engine's ventalation system (WTF?!)
failure of oil cooler.
come on ford!!

Damn... I knew about the unjector failure and loss of engine power, but not the others. Do you know the ratio between these problems and reliable cars?

Weird that you are a aftermarket company and never seen one. And I'm just a shmuck who goes to a track cuz I like to go fast and am too old to be street racing. I've seen 3 converted car models and 4 cars. 2 eclipses, 1 civic and 1 sentra SE-R

Pauly 05-07-2012 12:59 PM

no idea the ratio. but i cant put any car or truck on a pedistal. every auto maker has bad eggs. i used to love chevy, then i bought a brand new lemon SUV (equinox). also had a POS nissan sentra, years ago. but of all the different types i have owned, i found nissan to be generally dependable, so ive been sticking to the brand
