Also I hope the new WRX is really a lot faster (not just in a straightline) all around because every heavily modded WRX I have seen have had their a$$'es kicked by lightly modded or stock STIs. (Mostly at autox as I usually only see STIs at the track). It's really quite sad given the hype they get. I like the STI and everything, but buying that car at sticker or even invoice seems pretty crazy to me. It starts at 34 or 35K if I recall correctly?!? (My friend did buy an 09 brand new in 2009 for 29K!!!). |

If set on an STI, I would wait for the new STI. Ringlands are an issue with current.

Hope that search works, if not, go here (GR-General - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com) and type in 'ringland' in the search bar at the bottom. 2011 STi cracked ringland at 12,000km - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com 7,000miles...maybe cracked ringland? - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com 4320 miles and broken ring ...Update - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com 2011 sti reduced power, now possible ringland failure cyl4 - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com Engine exploded for the 3rd time, what to do? - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com More broken pistons. - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com Just test drove a 2010 w/2 new pistons... - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com Not again?! - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com Okay, I could keep posting links for quite a while, so I'll just stop. |
I have a stage 2 2011 sti and I have had Zero issues with the engine nor have I heard of any real ringland issues occurring from cars that were properly driven or modded. most of these problems stem from people auto crossing sti's with bolt-ons and no tune.

One of my roomates back in Hawaii had an 04 STi (the other had a jacked up truck with the obnoxious exhaust, lol) and I had an 04 SE-R Spec V. We used to trade cars often so that we could throw the chicks for a loop when they thought they were following us around. Anyway, the STi was pretty good straight out of the box. His previous car was an 02 (I think, not sure of the year) WRX but he found the twisty section of Farrington HWY that was gravel ridden and ended up at the bottom of the hill through the trees.
He did catback, intake, tune, FMIC, EBC, injectors and FP. It was considerably quicker afterwards. Never knew how much power he was putting down, but I could never keep up with those guys back then in a straight line anyway. I had some of the fastest times through the corners (in the Spec V), but got demolished on the straightaways, lol......... |
Oh yeah.........what's wrong with the Legacy? That was almost my family car a long while ago.......

Hey, I have both so I can chime in a bit.
An STi on a rally stage (or any dirtroad, snow trail, and so on) is insanely fun. All you need are different tires. If that does not sound like you then I would get the Z. If you don't plan on doing heavy modding, get the Z. If you plan on putting a lot of money in your car, then then there are almost no limits to what you can do with the STi (after you replace pistons with race spec, as you do with most cars during heavy modding) Don't let the ringland failures scare you away. Despite the many posts, it is actually quite rare. Proper tunes can also decrease your odds of failure. I am obsessed with both cars and know plenty about them. If you need any more info don't hesitate to pm me. |

Wow, that's a strong sound going up to redline with the F.I. headers & catback exhaust.

Looking for advice - Subaru buying back my STi - Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com |
Man I love he sound of these VQ motors on the revs with a good exhaust system. I need to record mine to see what it really sounds like outside. Inside mine is subdued. However, when I get on it I know it whales.
Buy a 370Z you won't be sorry... Less to go wrong, fast, looks great, quality build and will last you a long time. |
Either choice is good :ugh2:
And STAY ON TOPIC!! |
I've often though about getting a WRX or STI. For some reason after test driving them they remind me of my old VW. Not sure I'll ever get over that. Great cars though.

370 to STI or STI to 370
Just looking for some feedback about real life driving differences... I'm contemplating the jump as I could use the space of the hatch...
I know the STI isn't a true "sports car" but it appears to be fun, and have a much larger after market available. Just looking for some things that made you change one way or the other, I'm not looking to start a **** fight...I've done my research got the basic differences down... just wondering personal opinions on it from those who have made the jump. Despite having 4 doors, its still pretty nimble. The handling is ridiculous, the low end torque is insane, modding it with simple bolt ons increases horsepower easy.
The boxer sounds dope I don't think it looks as nice as the Z's lines, but still looks great for a hatchback. Stock vs stock i like the z better for the overall package, but you can't go wrong. I had an 05 sti which i loved, but sold for reasons. I enjoyed every bit of that car. Oh and i love the clutch response and feel of the subarus. |

Sorry mods! Thanks for moving my post! Sent from my ROIDED out communication device. |
I feel the only car I would compare to the STi would be the Evo and vise versa. The Z I feel has 1 up on the STi. Not in the performance sense but rather in the overall car. Z is 100% built with more quality from interior to exterior. Z is significantly more rare than a STi, and not to mention it looks better and attracts quite a bit of attention. Nowadays the WRX looks just like a STi and there are so many of them.
The STi is a fun and great car also, if I needed a AWD 4 door sporty car I would definitely get it. If you don't need AWD or 4 doors go for the Z, it won't disappoint. |

I checked one out again today, ive looked at them over the years (06, 08, 10) always disappointed by the interior, but i still want to try it try it... not just drive it for 5 minutes. IDK i see them but i wouldn't mind blending in.... for once. My big reason is, interior space and a back seat, neither of which i need full time, but would be nice to have, when i do need it. idk... |
It seems to me there is a mutual respect among Subaru WRX/STI drivers and Nissan Z drivers... like a mutual attraction for eachother's cars.
If your reason is more space inside and a back seat, then a Sti would definitely be functional. A Z has some space underneath the hatch if you just need a little bit of room. You could look at a used Boxster, too. There's actually pretty good storage space in front of the driver under the 'hood'. It seems the engine is kind of hard to get to though.. |
There is a lot of good input. Thanks! I now just have to find the one. And get back from overseas. but this will all keep me entertained till then.

Don't remember where I see this video, the guy don't even know the engine size of the car his driving. He Sucks!!!
