i'm quite happy with my subaru. although it was angry at me when i tried to do an AWD drift at a track event. subarus aren't meant to drift unless it's over snow / inclement weather :rofl2: |

It's like if I tried to do a burnout in the S2000. :bowrofl: |

My wife got a new STi last weekend, and I have the 40th Anniversary 370Z. I wouldn't pick an STi over a Z unless I needed the functionality and/or AWD.
I feel much more connected to the road & car when I drive the Z. The interior quality is a full step up in the Z, which adds to the driving experience for me. That said, I think the STi 6-speed shifts nicer. You can probably tell I care more about the driving experience more than the actual numbers. If the opposite were true, my choice of cars would be different as well. |
I'm all about the driving experience too. Whatever makes you happy is what you should drive.
|
yup, and both the Z and the WRX brings stupidly huge grins to my face every time.
i do agree the subies are awful interior-wise. not as bad as a mitsu though! |

"Whatever makes you happy" is the absolute, final, & indisputably correct answer when it comes to, "what should I buy". Drive everything, buy what you can afford, fits your needs, and makes you smile. And when you get bored with that car, trade it in on something else. Life's too short for anything else. :tiphat: That said... having owned a WRX in the past, and now a Z, I don't really understand the comparison. They're quite different. Arguing over which is "better" is sort of like arguing between a minivan and a pickup truck. Comparisons (arguments) tend to run in circles because it's tricky to directly compare them. If you want a quick, smallish, reasonably affordable sedan/hatchback with AWD, then a WRX is a fantastic choice. If you want a quick, reasonably affordable 2-seat RWD sports car, then a Z is a fantastic choice. Each has strengths and weaknesses. If it's just a 0-60/quarter-mile bragging rights thing, then just go buy a Mustang GT with Miata doors and call it a day. You win, I lose, game over. :stirthepot: |
wat do you guys think about the new impreza hatch styling? the STI's going to look like that in the future, true?
to me the new impreza looked like a previous gen ford or something. |

I think since the 06 it has just been going down hill. I loved the 05 style
|
my favorite subaru legacy:
http://www.subarucolors.info/wp-cont...T-spec.B-1.jpg the new ones are fugly. the new imprezas are...bland. supposedly the STi and WRX line will look similar, but i hope they do SOMETHING. the WRX line deserves better than one of the most cut/paste designs i've seen in years. |
i like the current(?) rounded STI/WRX hatch shape though. i was very close to buying a 09 when it was new. black with the 5 spoke wheels. got dealer to price at 31.5K even with lots of options i didnt want included....which was a super deal at the time.

I'll be interested to see what 2013 brings for the WRX. The WRX & WRX STi are supposedly going to be all-new for the 2014 model year, and for the first time completely separate from the standard Impreza line. Subaru's styling has always been polarizing; love it or hate it. While I don't think the current WRX's look awful, I'm not a fan. I'm hoping that Subaru uses the BRZ's styling queues, as it's a genuinely good-looking car (IMHO). |

with that said, they drive nice. sorta. |
Maybe it's my area, but I sure see more WRX/Impreza than Mustangs or Camaros

As soon as my 2000 Ford Explorer dies Im most likely getting into a WRX. At least thats the plan now. The Z and my house are paid off so I really have no excuse. It would be so awesome to have a Z and a WRX in the driveway :yum: Plus with just an intake and a tune you get oodles of extra HP.
|
alchemy- sounds like a :yum: plan.

I used to always think about getting a WRX wagon for a practical car. But now I think when I get a practical "car" it's going to be a truck, since I want towing capability. Quote:

Where in NY you live? I know in the 5 boroughs its mostly jdm and german as DD's. Muscle cars in the city are usually bought used and restored on classic status. Most of the stangs and maro's you will see in the 5 boroughs will be v6 as well. Challengers are mad rare... STi's are popular in the NYC cuz you never use top end power. So the subie makes for a crap load of fun where most highways speed limit is 50 and most streets are 25 and 30mph. |
i think i see a lot of wrx's and impreza hatches in my area too but like mustangs they blend in the background with the honda accords and such. :icon17:
