i do not like that front splitter. looks too busy for the simple lines of the s2k.

keep it clean steve.

?

GM_Traitor3.5 02-13-2012 02:41 PM

Ah that's not bad at all. Clean, but a hair more aggressive over the stock look.

actually now that I think about it you have to either not use the trunk or cut a hole in the trunk lid and keep it a coupe forever. You cant open that back part then open the trunk as well.

m4a1mustang 02-13-2012 02:44 PM

Phelan that's an AP1.

This is the lip (OEM) without the splitter. I think it is cleaner this way.

phelan 02-13-2012 02:44 PM

oh, oops, sorry. i'm not familiar with AP1 and AP2 differences. carry on!

m4a1mustang 02-13-2012 02:45 PM

More aggressive is the CR lip:

Nice pick up!

I have not had the pleasure of driving an S2000 (been a passenger) but wow did it handle, I could only imagine when actually driving it myself

Oh and I say go for the hardtop. Looks great

If we do bring both cars to ZDayZ she will be piloting the S2K and I'll drive the 5.0. Still figuring out how much it will cost to get both cars ready, though.

Not gonna lie, I think everybody likes s2ks. My duhmestic buddies even like them. And my girl too wanted me to get one. I have still been looking...but I think I am saving up for something with a little more compromise.

Who doesn't love a sportbike with doors? or a go kart with liscence plates?!

It's such a fun car to drive. That's exactly what it is... a four-wheeled sport bike. Lots of fun!

Yeah, honestly, we'll probably do the more subtle lip without the splitter underneath it.

ZMan8 02-13-2012 02:48 PM

+1 for Hardtop. I'm not sure about your area, but in chicago people cut right into the soft top and steal what they want without triggering an alarm.

^ Love that look, I want those air ducts for my AP1. I'm not sure if that lip will fit on AP2 face though.

I ordered seat locks for this reason.

It's a fair-weather car, though, so it will be parked in safe areas to the best of my ability. It's not a primary car so nothing will be kept inside, so if they cut it open well they'll just be disappointed by what they find.

I need to get those "seat lock" stickers for the windows. :icon17:

Someone tell me what I should use to clean and protect the top.

esfourteen 02-13-2012 02:57 PM

awesome! best of luck with the S2k

BigT 02-13-2012 02:59 PM

The Spoon hardtop was designed in a wind tunnel to aid in drag. Thats why it costs so much. Its the top of choice in Japan for road race s2000's.

nobody denies the functionality of it all. common sense-wise tells you the teardrop design will be better aerodynamically than the sudden cutoff of the OEM hard top. but the wind tunnel testing is for track ready s2ks. it's not practical for the daily driver, or even the weekend warrior.

m4a1mustang 02-13-2012 03:05 PM

Oh, so one bummer. I am missing the wheel lock key. The dealership is checking to see if they (or the previous owner) have it. If not I am going to order a new set and spin the current ones off with a turbo socket.

Waiz 02-13-2012 03:10 PM

Nice stable

NYBladeZ 02-13-2012 03:10 PM

I love the s2k, the gearbox is divine (my biggest gripe with the m6 Z) and it is well balance. Having a drop top makes it all that more enjoyable. However, the s2k does not respond to bolt on power mods. I know that's not what most people intend to do with it when they pick one up but who wouldn't want a little more power. With that said an S/Ced s2k is a beast, it'll make 360whp on a safe tune and outrun just about anything.

I was wondering how long 'til unicorn something popped up. :icon17:

I've heard of a lot of people using 303 Aerospace Protectant for the tops.
I thinks it's like a sunscreen kind of thing that repels uv rays.

m4a1mustang 02-13-2012 09:54 PM

So tonight in the airport parking garage I noticed a click from the left rear wheel when accelerating from a stop. I think it's an issue of the spindle nut not being tight enough. I did some searching and it seems like this is the case. My only fear is that due to the mileage on the car it might be too late to get by with just re-tightening and re-staking (or completely replacing) the spindle nut. I might need to replace the hub and wheel bearing as well. Though I didn't notice it when testing the car last week, so maybe it's a new development and re-tightening will be fine.

Parts are not expensive, but it seems like a PITA. I guess I'll look into it this weekend.

In happier news, the suitcase fits!

KingZee 02-13-2012 11:25 PM

Congrats on the new ride Steve! The S2k is the perfect car to toy with...I would love to get one, house first though.

m4a1mustang 02-14-2012 08:00 AM

Thanks! I doubt I'll buy any other cars before a house. Hard to tell, though. Content with apartment living 'til I am 100% sure where I'm going to be for a while.

So now that car purchase shock is wearing off, I am going back to putting Michelin PSS on the 5.0 and Conti DW on the S2K. :icon17:

I can't get the RE11 in any size that will work with the stock wheels.

My only real options are PSS in OEM size 255/40/19 (27" tall) or 275/35/19 (26.6" tall).
