Z's are much cheaper here in the US than anywhere else.

us prices will be about 94K for the premium and over 100K for the black... about a 3-5K increase from last year

the GTR is more expensive now in both the UK and japan... converted to US dollars their cars are 120K+

Hopefully it will make for a price drop on the 2012's though. Do you know when the last model year is suppose to be?

Lemers 11-08-2011 12:33 PM

There was a law in Japan that they referred to as "dumping". I read about it involving play station. Basically a Japanese company can not sell products that they sell in japan at a significant cheaper price in other countries. It is to protect Japanese consumers. So if the GTR is cheaper here in the states than Nissan would have to justify why if the Government of Japan pursued charges.

yeah see back in 08 when the car was launched here.... the price in japan and the US was actually pretty close...but then... the yen and dollar really started to move different ways and their 2010 model year just shot up and made a huge gap between the 2 markets.... the US saw a price increase but the gap was still there

in 2008 the base price of a GTR in the US was 69K for the base model... then there was a price increase of about 4K only months after the release... 2010 they got rid of the base and the premiums were around 84K.... then 2012 90K and closer to 95K in 2013

but while all that was going on markets like japan and the UK were 115K plus to 120K+ so if you look at it like that the GTR is not only the best value of any supercar...... the US market GTR is cheaper than other GTRs around the world

MC 11-08-2011 12:57 PM

here is a really good interview about the new GTR... for those that dont follow the GTR program closely the chief engineer Mizuno san does things his own way and alot of that is reflected in the car and why it changes every year

The Corvette roars. The 911 wails. The GT-R whirs and whines as though it’s running a mixture of Jet A and cesium-134. A sense of  hugeness and heaviness is unavoidable in a car that is so huge and heavy, which makes its numbers all the more startling: three seconds flat to 60 mph and 11.2 seconds through the quarter-mile—and it’s not even the quickest GT-R we’ve ever tested. A 2012 model, less 15 horses, managed to dip below three seconds for a couple of runs. Launch control and raw traction are what pares down the GT-R’s numbers, but heavy rain the day before our testing probably hampered grip.

hmmm, I would have expected the winner to either be the Z06 or the GTR, the new 911 is just so expensive for far less performance. the turbo or turbo s would've been a better comparo.

How likely do you think the next gtr will look drastically different from the current one? Any chance the gtr will look more exotic like a lambo, nsx, new lotus espirit? The gtr has everything I would like in a car except the styling. Great price for a car so fast and Japanese. I can justify spending around $100k for a r8, nsx, gtr but not $200k for a ferrari.

HKYStormFront 01-12-2012 05:47 PM

hopefully they will address the complaints about the styling in the next generation but i doubt it's going to be substantially different from the one that's out now. keep in mind the styling is based on the car's aerodynamics and drag coefficient. yea that might not make for the sexiest form but it means the car is absolutely as fast as it can be (at least from the factory). truly, function following form. in that way, i think it looks really good. it's definitely not the best looking car i've ever seen. but it's far from the worst

MC 01-12-2012 06:02 PM

i think the next GTR will be a good bit different... i would bet it uses a hybrid system similar with electric motors running the front wheels.. thats not confirmed but the GTR is a leader in technology and if it doesn't adopt something like this for the new R36 it will be behind whats cutting edge

its still a ways off the R35 is confirmed to be produced through 2015

as far as design i dont expect it to be a radical departure like the NSX now is i think it will still be instantly recognizable as GTR and very much rooted in the real world.. the R33 and R34 were very similar.....

Billy02987 01-12-2012 06:37 PM

I wouldn't mind some tweaks but one of my favorite things about the car is how they stay true to the roots for the most part.

remember too that the GTR has back seats, that factor alone is going to drive to a big extent the styling, along with front engine location ect. Cant' really expect it to look like 2 seater mid engined cars imo.

MC 01-12-2012 07:00 PM

yeah i doubt it would stray from that formula...

infiniti is lauching a mid engine sports car concept next month but after reading up on it it will be a primary all electric car with a 1.2 liter range extender engine midship... i dont think the GTR will take much from that

the essence on the other hand was a modded GTR platform with the hybrid tech...so the ground work could be there for something down the road

/\ x2. That's my gut feeling as well, hybrid awd system with conventional gas motor, perhaps with electic assist like the upcoming nsx. 7 sp DCT, still turbo and hopefully a bit lighter or same weight as current car but with the all the hybrid crap in there as well.

HKYStormFront 01-12-2012 07:26 PM

*prepares for internet haters when the GTR doesn't even "make traditional engine noises" in the next body style since haters already complain about the electronics*

MC 01-12-2012 07:31 PM

na i think it will have atleast a 400-450hp engine or something with maybe a extra 150+ coming from the electrics

b1adesofcha0s 01-13-2012 07:48 AM

I can't wait to see what they do with the R36. I would love it if they made it look more exotic.

MC 01-19-2012 07:51 PM

official pricing is released tomorrow but its

95K for the premium and 105K for the black edition

up from 89,950 and 95,100 for the black edition in 2012

so quite a steep bump over last year and just think the base model 2009 GTR was 69,900

honestly, this is starting to get ridiculous. 10K more for the black ed. I'm assuming it's the CF wing that's driving 1/2 that since for '12 the difference betwn prem and blk was 5K.

HKYStormFront 01-19-2012 07:55 PM

yea pretty much, 5k for the seats and wheels difference, 5k extra for the CF wing. granted that's a discount compared to buying the parts separately but still, i agree, prices are getting mighty steep.
