Default Dunlop RunFlat Tires (BMW X5) Experience / Review

Just want to share a runflat tires review. Note: the runflats was on a BMW X5 not 370z.

The car has around 80,000km.
Both winter driven and summer in Canada Ontario.
Has two set of tires; each set of tires has around 40,000km lifespan.
The tires are close to the wear-marks, but the tread are not touching.

Traveled on the hwy, "Flat Tire" alert comes on when I was traveling 120km/h. No shake, no sound, no wobble, great tires so far. Alert also states to reduce speed to 80km/h; so I did.

Traveled for another 10km or so, cars passed me and while looking at me strangely then I realized white smoke coming from the side of the car. Exit the hwy, looked at the tire (pass. rear). Flat tire, but the side wall still holding up. Traveled for another 20km and got home and took pictures:

Things seems fine from the outside, but I replaced the flat tire with one of my winters. This is what I found.

The inside basically ripped apart.

Overall, I would say it was a pretty safe drive from the moment the tires blew to getting home. But BMW advertised, with a flat tire, the runflat could traveled up to 150km. Which is obviously not the case. Anyhow, brought another set of runflat for $1980.00 shipped. Normal (non-runflat) good performance would cost around $1200.00 or so. It's an expensive price to pay for runflats. But BMW now doesn't come with a spare or a jack and mainly my girlfriend drives the car so just a little insurance for her.
