Honestly I don't know how much the auto would be able to handle. 600whp would probably be 550+ lb-ft which is a lot of torque being fed through the transmission. At the very least you'd need a cooler.

The one good thing, though, is that you can count on it that someone involved with the Mustang aftermarket is questioning how much power the drivetrain can handle. I'm sure there are already upgrades in the works. That aftermarket is incredibly robust... there's an aftermarket solution to EVERYTHING.

What a surprise - a bunch of guys on a 370z forum favoring their car of choice over a Mustang. I just can't believe it..

I respect the 5.0

I don't think anyone is saying the 5.0 sucks.

It is a straight line car. All muscle cars are... The Z is NOT a straight line car however is more of a sports car. I don't see anything wrong with what people are saying.

So far everyone has said they like it, its just a different type of car. I completely respect it as well however its not a sports car. I will race it on a road course not on a drag strip where all muscle cars live

vividracing 08-15-2010 01:27 AM

great review! there's a reason why you see mustangs everywhere, affordable price and fast!

I have not really seen any 5.0 Mustangs yet. :(
I know where to find them if I really really want to have a go at it, and they have invited me out.

Vegitto-kun 08-15-2010 09:54 AM

Yeah and post evidence.

I wonder what is the normal time for the Z?

m4a1mustang 08-15-2010 09:54 AM

Low 13s with a good driver. I think the best magazine time is a 13.1 with the 7AT.

Yeah, he should be able to go solidly into the 12s and trap 110+. He just needs to get a solid launch is all. :tiphat:

And if I know one thing about Matt, it's that he's not really good at getting things started. ;)

Vegitto-kun 08-15-2010 10:17 AM

Haha yeah.

power is awesome unless you cant put it down.

The pink window tint is my favorite part. You know how Mercedes use that blue tint that makes everything outside look bluer and fresher and makes you feel like, "hot damn, I'm driving a Benz -- life is great!"... This is just like that expcept pink.

I bet that would sell like hotcakes in Japan.

PapoZalsa 08-15-2010 11:36 AM

Once again, here we go again comparing Muscle Cars to Sport Cars... :shakes head:

The old style gauges are what deter me from looking at it seriously.

I'm sure the new BOSS 302 will be a COMPLETELY different animal and probably put the Z to shame, but even though we lack almost 100hp to the GT the Z is still awesome in it's own right.

The GT doesn't match the feel of the Z in any respect... it's not a sports car, plain and simple. If you want the sports car feel... Z all the way. If you want muscle with lots of room to improve... GT for sure.

My problem is I want them both and at this time I can't have them both... and as diehard a Ford guy I am I don't know if I'm willing to part with the Z so I can get into the GT.

But damn I hate the VQ... I want more power.

I guess it's up to you to make the final decision but I think you'll have (if not already) more fun in the Z. I don't know how often your track or do performance driving, but more power isn't always more fun. Of course, you will make the final decision.

However, I will NOT mind driving this car, though I will never trade the Z for it. Once the Z is paid off ;). I have been craving for a low end tq monster! (540 HP/510 ft/lbs tq)

or black.

m4a1mustang 08-16-2010 08:08 AM

I don't really view it that way at all, because the Mustang aftermarket is so huge you can really take the car wherever you want... street, strip, or track... it's endless. A little suspension work and you will turn the GT into an uncompromised corner carver.

Sibze 08-16-2010 08:09 AM

I would take that Shelby over the Z though...

:iagree:

I'm curious, wonder if theres any penis envy amongst the 4.6L owners about the 5.0, kinda like the 350Z owners about the 370, you hear anything like that M4A1?

There always is a little bit, but I can tell you it's absolutely NOTHING like the 350/370 hate. There's a much tighter sense of community across the different Mustang models.

I always flash my lights at 350's, I've never gotten a response. I think they are all in a state of shock that a 370 owner even notice them. That or jealous rage, of course.

Probably more jealous rage.

I was at a gas station the other day with a 350 Nismo (he was at the pump ahead of me) and said "nice car" to him. He said in the most rude, pretentious way, "Yeah."

What a douchefaggot that guy ways.

I shockingly got the opposite reaction the other day heading up to the mountain. A 350 was getting on the highway and noticed me. He did the "cool" wave I guess out of appreciation and so I had no prob waving back.

There's already tune+CAI packages out for the '11 Mustang GT. Heck, KW even has the V3 for the '11 Mustang GT already.

I have met a lot of nice 350 owners for sure, but that doesn't change the fact that there is still a lot of hate from the 350 camp.

MMC Racing 08-16-2010 11:00 AM

When driving the GT-R around, I give 370z owners a big thumbs down.. I work for Merck, makers of Hyzaar high blood pressure medicine, and giving the thumbs down is good for business.
