NO gettin rid of that Scion Tail light, ewwww

daisuke149 04-20-2011 04:33 PM

this is prototype based on the platform. Not yet confirmed that it will be built and not a production design.

Red__Zed 04-20-2011 06:01 PM

Yeah, and there's no way that Scion light would make it to production.

I've got no problem with it being badged as a scion. And yeah the rear tail, just like the tire tread will never see the light of the factory floor so you can rest easy lol But I wanna see this go into production cause I'd seriously consider this as my first Red car.

I'd prefer it to come as a Toyota, just to avoid the scion stigma. I'd probably buy the subaru version if the Toyota one was badged as a scion.

Is the Subie version the FT-86? or is that what turned into the FR-S... I've been so out of the loop with this thing... I'd like to see a Subie version myself. I'm guessing with it having a Subie powerplant, it would be very easy to turbo??

The subaru version should come turbo'd from what I hear. It will be the same platform, same engine and everything.

That is the other reason people are going to jump to subaru, TURBO!

The toyota version will almost definitely have a turbo option as well though.

Damn you guys are out of the loop. Inside information from both companies has eluded to the fact that there will not be a turbo version, or at least not for the first year or two. The subaru version will also not be AWD (which is pissing off a lot of suby guys). The car is slated to have 170-200hp and come in with a weight of 2700-3000lbs. Originally it was estimated to have 220hp and 2600lbs but that has now but squashed. That's not to say that these specs are set in stone, we won't know that until it's released, but inside informers have basically said this will be a miata fighter and not something that will step up to the likes of the 370z/mustang/camaro/genesis. Also, price is said to be 20-25k. Lastly, for engine specs pay attention to the new 2012 impreza that was just released. Sources say it will be the same engine that will power the FT-86.

I think you're actually more out of the loop.

The car will be priced much closer to 30k, not 20-25k.

It's been well known for a while that the car won't be AWD. The engine placement does not allow for the use of subaru's AWD system.

The engine will be a tuned up EJ20, or the new FB20. Subaru is currently planning to release only a turbo edition, while toyota is planning on releasing several. It's been known since the beginning that the car would be focused more on being lightweight and fun, rather than powerful.

This may all change, of course, since even the manufacturers don't know for sure what will happen at this point.

they just announced Nov '11. The subaru should be around Feb '12.

Cmike2780 04-20-2011 09:45 PM

I like it... Although I think it needs more grunt to pull off that look.

Lemers 04-20-2011 09:46 PM

I'll believe that when I see it. It takes time to go from concept to production line. Even if that concept is near production.
