I want to buy a leaf and turn it into a monster electric drag car.

100 miles per charge.

^^How much $$$ per month will it add to my electric bill charging it probably 15 times a month?...I bet it will end up costing me more then gas.

Well, when Nissan ran the math out on it, it came out to: A 100-mile "fill-up" takes 24 kWh of electricity, or about $2.40 at 10¢/kWh. In comparison, going 100 miles in a 50 MPG Prius costs $5.60 at $2.80/gallon, or 2.3x more. Assuming the Z gets 25 mpg to keep the math easy, it's 4.6 times cheaper to run the Leaf.

Of course, the Z is about 10 times more fun to drive, and that's the factor that I would have a hard time with. :driving:

The issue with that figure is that batteries start diminishing in their capacity as they are used; one-hundred optimal miles is ambitious. Short hauls might be acceptable, but in Southern California this will not go far. As much as I cannot stand GM anymore (after the bailout) their Volt concept—provided GM actually pulls it off—is a better step in the right direction, and for the transitional phase upon us.

estmates are between $3.50 and $4.50 a full charge So you get 100 miles for about 4 bucks. You won't beat that with any gas car on the market.

I drive a natural gas powered honda civic that costs less to operate, of course I set it up with a hardcore suspension and can run circles around most traffic, and gets me on the HOV lane here in Arizona... I'm working on a filling station for my house that converts the household natural gas to 3500 psi... never go to a gas station again... it cost $22k new and included a federal tax credit and zero sales tax and registration.... why buy anything else for commuting?

Well it seems it is already doing well: 8,000 pre-orders: Nissan books 8,000 Leaf orders in nine days, gets turned on with that electric feel -- Engadget

Probably, but also considering (per the article) they are only selling in a few states to start it sounds like a pretty good start.
