GM has closed the gap between its flagship Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Zo6 by introducing the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Cabon Limited Edition model.

With production limited to just 500 examples, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon combines the road-holding and braking of the ZR1 with the naturally-aspirated engine of the Z06.

The Corvette Z06 Carbon features Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers from the ZR1 and black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels wrapped in Michelin PS2 rubber.

It will also include Magnetic Selective Ride Control for the first time on the Z06 along with enhanced cooling and a special carbon pattern engine cover.

Customers will be able to choose between two exclusive exterior finishes – Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue.

The outside of the Corvette Z06 Carbon has received the full ZR1 makeover with black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter.

Inside, the Corvette Z06 Carbon is finished in a combination of leather and suede complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen.

Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest with suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors.

For buyers that miss out on a genuine Corvette Z06 Carbon, an optional Z07 performance package that includes the mechanical upgrades introduced on the Z06 Carbon can be added to a regular 2011 Z06.

The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition adds to the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1 models already on offer in the Corvette line-up.

If only the interior didn't underwhelm as much as it does.

that's a given with just about any american sports car. its just one of those things you gotta overlook...you just gotta think "well, if im able to get from point a to point b faster, i dont have to stare at this crap interior for very long."

I agree. Speaking from experience the interior of the C6 is not very nice, especially the seats.

Decent car. However, this car doesn't seem to have a purpose or a market. What is the reason for its existence? the price difference between a z06 and a zr1 is not too big. this car will be priced somewhere between the two, so price wise it is even closer to the zr1 than the z06 is. now, why would any potential buyer choose this car instead of paying a few thousand more to get the top of the line zr1?

I don't think it'll sell like hotcakes at $90K+.......may as well just get the zr1

precisely my point. unless it's aggressively priced, somewhere very very close to the z06, buyers will likely just cough up a few thousand more for the zr1. of course, on the other hand, if they do price it more closely to the z06, then this car will make the base z06 irrelevant. that would probably be the only logical solution, price this carbon edition just a few thousand above the z06, and discontinue the base z06 altogether.

I was hoping to read something about the weight savings from fiberglass to CF?

Z06 MSRP = $74,375

ZR1 MSRP = $110,300

That over a $35,000 split.

Corvette needs a makeover.

It's looked virtually the same for the last decade it seems.....

It is actually a touch heavier than a "base" Z06 due to the addition of extra body parts and the heavier rims/tires.

I strongly disagree that it looks virtually the same. However, it does NEED a make-over, and GM's "special edition" models just aren't going to keep cutting it. We need a C7, and it better not be a flop or "C6.5".

A 1LZ Z07 corvette can be had in the mid 70's. It laps the 'ring 3 seconds slower than the ZR1, which CANNOT be had below HIGH 90's, new, within its model year on both accounts.

It has identical suspension.
Identical bodywork/aero.
Identical cooling system.
Identical brakes.
Different engine/clutch/1/2-shafts, as I understand it.

So, gonna pay another $20K for those 3 seconds on the 'ring time?

Definitely not "priced too close".

With C6 corvettes, MSRP is one of those things that a serious buyer won't even glance at. It's invoice or below, or you carry your *** to a dealership that will do it.
