"Wow, that engine bay looks good." - Quote from a Mustang co-worker.

m4a1mustang 02-08-2010 04:53 PM

It does look f'n sweet. I still think the best way to go is buy a GT and mod it up, but a GT500 + exhaust = awesome DD.

Finally, the SVT Performance Package, designed for the track-day fiend who wants to eke out more performance from the Shelby GT500. The package includes Goodyear EagleŽ F1 SuperCar G:2 tires designed specifically for the Shelby, lighter wheels, stiffer springs, a higher rear axle ratio and all are available on both convertible and hardtop. We're told the package reduces track time by an average of 3 seconds on a 2.3 mile track. So, basically, the Shelby GT500 is lighter, more powerful, gets better fuel economy and is faster around the track. Yes, we're happy about this upgrade.

Nitemare06 02-08-2010 04:54 PM

I didnt say that. I was complaining that you said it. No one cares what the engine bay looks like when its a 550 horse 5.4L V8.

m4a1mustang 02-08-2010 04:55 PM

We all know they won't stay @ 550 hp for long. I wonder how long it's going to take before we see the first 1000whp 2011... probably only a month.

If that, I have always liked the fact that when a new Mustang launches the day after the first one is sold you see guys on a dyno putting down 50% more power.

so sad the back looks hideous

If that. Kenne Bell, exhaust and tune. Done.On the 03-04 Terminator Cobra, that was easy 750 horse package. The 07 GT500, with the "little" 2.8L blower makes 801 on pump gas. Imagine the 4.2L blower that is in development.

It is the same roof from the 2010 GT, it is a "glass roof" as Ford calls it. Not sure how they re-enforce it or anything yet as I have not seen a 2010 with up close.

vash_241987 02-08-2010 08:01 PM

There also is a rumor of a twin turbo version: http://www.moddedmustangs.com/do-i-h...bo-coming.html

To me it is still a mustang.

Pretty nice, I wonder if the MSRP will stay the same, like $49K, for that price it's a much better deal then the Shelby GT350 version, I think that was going to set you back about $68K.

Pharmacist 02-08-2010 10:25 PM

bleh. just a mustang. all they did was put a supercharger in it. and jack up the price sky high. perhaps instead of worrying about inflated hp and ginourmous engines they should instead spend some money modernizing the car and bringing it into this century

theDreamer 02-09-2010 04:13 PM

Ummmm, no it is not.
It is a Ford Mustang GT with a SC, suspension, wheel, tire, weight reduction upgrade kit. Not saying you can do all this better/cheaper yourself, but it is more than just a SC addition.

so it's a souped up mustang. which over here has an msrp of 58k! thats about the price of a semi-optioned out 335i and less than 7k cheaper than the porsche cayman! now why is an archaic ford retailing for the same price as european luxury sports cars? oh and for 58k you still get the solid rear axle :shakes head:

Finally get to use that without linking to it.
Really, you want to start this again? Can you not respect another car for the advancements it has made in technology? Did you even read the link to see what they did to this car that has never been done before on a Mustang? Are you so stuck up in your own world that you have no clue how to appreciate other cars? Or is it because it is not a Z then it has no place here?

m4a1mustang 02-09-2010 08:09 PM

The answer is no, he can't.

Damn pill pushers.

that was the ford gt, which is a legitimate supercar. there are light years between the gt and the mustang.

:icon18: funny cuz most people would say the mustang is lagging in technology compared to other cars

Yes and no! Carroll Shelby won the 24 hours of LeMans in the late 50's. Beating Ferrari , I believe he drove an Aston Healey , or Aston Martin, which was considered an underdog!

If your going to get technical, the Ford GT was made between 2002-2005. The one racing in the 60s was the GT40.

And If you want to say its lagging in technology, thats your opinion and you can say that. Im sorry if you have to have an IRS to feel competent. Last I checked thats the only old technology on the car, considering most muscle cars still use pushrod motors, and this is a modular motor. They made a ton of advancements on the new GT500, such as a new cylinder liner that won Ford the Inventor of the Year award. It replaces iron sleeves in an aluminum block. Saves 8.5 lbs off the engine, and reduces friction greatly. But thats right, its lagging in technology. Fords newly redesigned live axle can do anything your IRS can do, any day. Ford asked its Mustang crowd what it wanted for 2005, a new IRS or new live axle. Well its quite obvious what won out. You and a ton others think its "old and outdated", but last I checked it still works.

So are you gonna go tell GM that they need to change the Vette because Pushrods were made in the 60's? Didnt think so. So leave Ford alone about the live rear axle.

Thanks. I mostly look around and read whats going on with people and their Zs, but decided a post needed to be made. I love all kinds of vehicles, lean more towards the muscle car side because thats how I grew up, but hey what wouldn't get you going about a 427 BBF?

I'm the same way -- I am a car guy first and foremost.

ZEEYA 02-10-2010 09:08 AM

? If a live axle is so great then why don't other euro car builders use it, let's not forget BMW, Porsche, ferreri, jaguar, Aston Martin etc .. Have been racing for years there must some reason these companys don't use live axles, it's cheaper, some of you say it's no different. And let's not forget only reason ford beat Ferrari in lemans in the 60s is with British help all ford did was supply the finances and and the engines, plus they had some talented drivers, every time this topic comes up nobody gives the drivers any credit you can have all the power in the world don't mean **** if don't have driver who can control it.

m4a1mustang 02-10-2010 09:09 AM

It's pretty obvious why they use the live axle.
