But is the b58 engine better than the nissan tt v6?
There's a youtuber papadakis racing i know i spelled that name wrong, took the bmw engine apart and said it could handle some good power from its oem hp.
Time will tell how much nissans engine can handle without rebuilding the trans and engine.
And from what I read, bmw down plays their hp. Some say its about 425hp.

But time will tell. Let's wait until the Z comes out and people test these 2 out. It will be interesting

I'll be in my bunk!

We already have these engines in the Red Sports Q50/Q60 I think they are. Not a sedan guy.

Will just have to wait until its in the showroom & drive one.

THE BULL 08-19-2021 06:05 PM

In my opinion this will be a lighter/faster RED SPORT.

Being that the Q50/60 never saw a manual transmission we wont know for sure how fast. There has been documentation of some that have swapped however still dealing with some electrical issues.

A q50/60 in auto form would be a close comparison until they revealed that it will have 9 freaking speeds.

7at is already faster off the line, so I suspect acceleration on the Z will be like no other taking advantage of max boost to change gears at those levels to keep going faster.

Weight is similar
Power is a bit higher on the Z
More TQ than the Supra

THE BULL 08-19-2021 06:12 PM

The decider will be the transmission. I already see the MT falling behind whether you like it or not.

Supra - Z AT - Z MT
First Gear Ratio 5.25 - 5.425 - 3.795
Second Gear Ratio 3.36 - 3.263 - 2.325
Third Gear Ratio 2.17 - 2.250 - 1.625
Fourth Gear Ratio 1.72 - 1.649 - 1.272
Fifth Gear Ratio 1.32 - 1.221 - 1.000
Sixth Gear Ratio 1.00 - 1.000 - 0.795
Seventh Gear Ratio 0.82 - 0.862 - ---
Eighth Gear Ratio 0.64 - 0.713 - ---
Ninth Gear Ratio --- - 0.597 - ---
Final Axle Ratio 3.15 - 3.133 - 3.538

As you can see the Supra and the Auto Z share similarities in gear ratio, in stock form the Auto Z should dominate however upon turbo upgrades that might change or might not.

The ability to have 3 extra gears than the CD trans means you wont have any issues dropping in carrying a gear past max boost since there will be another gear. Since the DCT trans is taking popularity many folks are starting to see the light with fast shifting multiple gearing trans. The Q50 7at has also been found to be a stronger upgrade for auto folks. In my opinion Nissan has never disappointed us in the strength of factory turbocharged components and I dont expect them to drop the ball with this NEW trans.

You'll start seeing fully bolted Zs hurting feelings soon. Can't wait.

Z>Supra all day and twice on Sunday.

Manual trans option

Clutch style lsd

Actually a Japanese sports car from a Japanese mark

Replacement parts etc will be cheaper (a new motor for the z should be less $$ than a new bmw I6 motor)

Subjective but the new z looks better and will age better, the Supra looks better in person than pics but it’s styling is too busy for my taste.

Can’t wait to see what the nismo version comes to the table with, that’s the one me and wifey are potentially interested in.

I actually like that new Supra. My main concern is reliability tbh. That cost on repairs for the Supra will already be more costly no doubt. If the New Z mods easily there isn't a doubt in my mind it will outsell the competition.

That is really the beauty of Nissan recycling, aftermarket support is already here for the Z and for certain basics there have been parts available for 6 years:icon17:

The biggest hurdle will be tuning, mainly for the 9 speed since it will be NEW NEW for everyone.

I don't think many Supra owner will like the new Z given the lack of fake vents it offers. :icon14:

I reckon you are correct sir! :rofl2:

I will test it - the new Z. Certainly a new sportscar in the world of crap SUV/Boxes etc is very welcome. My 370Z treated me quite well.

I have a new 21 Supra 2.0 for daily. Red. I love it. I enjoy the looks and design overall. The curve nature of its design is nice given the overtly square/boxy look of most vehicles.
The 2.0 is much stronger than most people think and is a proven BMW powerplant with plenty of support for those who tune/mod etc.

did you test drive the 3.0 and if so - how did it compare to the 2.0? I heard the 2.0 gives a more 'balanced' feel in the curves but obviously the 3.0 is faster.

The 3.0 was on the radar always but reports of some instability with the rear end in 20 etc and having enough cars with power the 2.0 was very intriguing for a 'daily'.

The initial reports on its balance, as you say were good. Power is good, true front mid engine with the engine placement and the lost weight were nice. Excellent reports about ride comfort, and I think ok, perfect daily. Power, very nice style etc.

My mechanic at BMW is an expert on development and and has stated the 2.0 is really strong and well developed. Early issues cured motor is solid now. He does prototype testing/mechanics for BMW . He loves the Supra, the synch of Toyota tuning and BMW hardware etc. He also likes the package the 2.0 offers.

We were bold and purchase with no test as well lol :)

If the tuning is there, the Z is going to be a solid choice. It is exactly what enthusiasts needed. Manual and twins. I am honestly more excited for the turbos and I'm seriously considering going back to a manual when this drops.
