2019 Camaro SS commits Hara Kiri...

Coming home tonight from work, I get in the turn lane to hop onto the parkway. In front of me is a brand new 2019 Camaro SS still with the temp tag on it.

He must have noticed my Z behind him because after a couple of seconds sitting there at the light behind him, he revs the engine a couple times. I just sit there and ignore it. Then the light changes to green...

He takes off normally and once on the on-ramp, he punches it. I'm already in 2nd and of course, I punch it as well. I knew immediately that he had the 10-speed auto because of the quick shifts. I'm feathering the gas to keep from pushing him out of the way when all of a sudden around 70 mph I see a bright flash from under his car, like way up under the car near the engine (not the exhaust) just as it shifted into 3rd or 4th gear. I hear a strange loud "pop" from his car and then his headlights and taillights flicker a couple times and go completely out, though his brake lights still worked fine.

** Keep in mind, this is NOT a "race" story or about breaking speed limits. For one, I don't do that sort of crap anymore, and this parkway is heavily patrolled by the FHP all the time, and in fact there were two of them just up the road not even a mile with two cars pulled over. I just planned on flooring it to 70 mph which is the posted limit, then letting off. If he wanted to keep going, that's his own thing.**

Anywho...

By this point, he's slowing down and I slowly pass him as we get onto the parkway. I noticed that his engine was off. I started to slow down to match his speed to see if things were alright. When I come down along side him, he flicks me off and yells "F*$^ you"!

At that point, I turn from being concerned to instant **** mode. I sarcastically laugh at him, drop down to 2nd and let my exhaust blast him with a bunch of bangs, pops and some fireballs as he pulls off onto the shoulder and I leave his ***.

I'm just curious as to what happened to that Camaro. It sounded good while it was running WOT, but he certainly wasn't pulling away from me. The thing was brand new, V8, auto, couldn't have had many miles on it, yet it looks and sounds like it had some kind of catastrophic failure, possibly, probably electrical.

The dude was probably embarrassed which induced his reactions when I got back along side him.

He probably blew his engine. Typical chevy engine. Those things are only pushing 275 to the wheels

I've heard about new Camaros shutting off while driving. They're wonderfully Chevy.

I love it when they have to eat their own dust :rofl2:

I'm gonna guess it's the new 10 speed transmissions. I've never had a problem with mine and I've raced it. (Which our warranties cover racing)

And people shun Hyundai and Alfa for reliability...
:-)

One of many reasons I still shy away from buying anything American.

I don't know as I've never the need to research them. For your sake, I hope you never have problems with yours.

Exactly. I have nothing against Hyundai, Kia or Alfa. Hell, my other car is a Fiat 500L Trekking, and I love driving that thing!

Haha... He can post whatever he wants. He certainly wasn't walking this Z. Like I said, I was feathering the throttle from keeping my Z from going up his a$$.

And an update!!!

So my girlfriend a I were getting on the parkway again this morning around 10am to go do some work and planning on our future house. Anyway, we're on the parkway and as we come up over the hill I see flashing yellow lights on top of a flatbed wrecker. Sitting silently behind said wrecker is that same 2019 Camaro SS with the driver standing next to it, the wrecker dude getting the winch cable out and the hood open on the SS.

Damn!... That dude ended up leaving the car there all night or staying there with it. Either way, it must suck being him right about now.

I would have if I was in the Z. Maybe even pop the exhaust. But we were in a rental.
