Is Maxima a sports car ?
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...86f3007593.jpg
* THIS IS NOT A VS THREAD !! Nissan says its Maxima is a 4DSC - four door sports car. Personally I like it and want to own one, but sometimes I see some other articles which disagree to that. How do you think about its true category? Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |

I say test drive one and get a feel for yourself. |
Not a sports car at all, garbage
I'm on Maxima 2, never again. The CVT is ok to drive, but this one will need a replacement soon. God forbid you're out of warranty... It's kinda quick for a boat, but JEEEEEZUS Nissan must be using the springs and struts off a Sentra... Rear sags like a mofo with 200lbs in the rear, and if you go over any bump, that áss goes up and down like the struts are shot, even though they're fine... Oh, about the quickness. The Maxima only allows for 80% throttle 0-40, then 100% 40-80, and over 80MPH, you go back to 80% throttle, to help save the "CVT BOOM"... The Maxima guys tune it to give 100% all the time and damn it makes it an actual "quick" car, but then tranny life goes to shít. I'm very anti-Nissan now, moreso against the Maxima, it's like the Lexus ES, they really haven't changed the underpinnings in 10-ish years, too bad Nissan doesn't learn from their mistakes in previous gens, they change the body, leave almost everything else the same |
WRX STI is a true 4DSC
Maximas are for middle aged men who couldn't quite make it in life to own a Q50S. |
Honestly ure better off with the new murano
|
Fwd and cvt? Not a sports car.
|
Dude, never ask for anyone's opinion on here, buy what you like.

Interior looks nice, but loaded this car ain't cheap, new or used. You have plenty of other choices if you want a real 4DSC. |

4DSC has been the marketing theme for the Maxima since the early 90's. IMHO it looks better than the infiniti q50
|
Short answer... No.
|
Infiniti Q gets my vote.. after optioning out too much for a maxima.
|
How is this even a question..?
|
I have to admit that the interior is very nice. Makes our Interior of our Zs look ancient. But it's definitely NOT a 4DSC, definitely not with FWD and CVT.

Use the search box.... There's already a thread on this.
http://www.the370z.com/other-vehicle...an-maxima.html No it's not a sports car. Not even a Lil bit. |

Sports car? No. But if I was in the market for a fwd, family sedan this is on my short list. Compared to the Camry/Accord/Altima, this is a better option in my opinion.
I've driven quite a few 8th gens and they are comfy cruisers. The CVT is much better than previous gens too (but I still prefer a geared trans) |
Test drove it prior to getting the G. It just felt too boat like. Mushy suspension, cvt, fwd, fail. Even the g37x (awd) felt awfully soft. It wasn't until I drove an actual S model that the G became a real contender.
Too old to be in a wrx. The sti needs a significant update. DI engine, better mpg. |
Hell NO!
Too many manufacturers are getting away with calling some of their vehicles "sports cars". |
4 dour sports car is bordering on an oxymoron. The M3 is a sports sedan even in the 2 door configuration. The Maxima is a sedan plain and simple. Idk if I would even call it a sporty sedan either. It's FWD, no manual trans option, no turbo/faster engine setup makes for a pretty generic sedan IMHO.

Drove my Mom's '11 to South Carolina on a trip last year. 750 miles each way, and I knew I couldn't take the Z for that long (plus 2 people's luggage for a week). It actually did pretty well in the mountains. I probably wouldn't have pushed the Z much harder.
She has a whopping 6K miles on it. I do like the new Platinum. Sharp car especially in light colors. |
I have no illusion that my G37 is a 4DSC even though It's based upon the same platform as the Z34. Not only "No" for the Maxima, but "Hell no".
|
Wait for the Mazda 6 Turbo...

Exactly this. |
I don't think the average Maxima buyer even knows what 4DSC means...

Nissan's JATCO has the world-best technology for their CVTs. You still think Maxima isn't a sports car though ?? :D Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |

No offense, but Maxima isn't close to being a Civic R. And it can be the best CVT, still a CVT.
People (including members here) yawn at Q50s. You shouldn't be surprise that nobody here is buying into that 4DSC slogan. It's a Camry XSE /Accord EX-L that has a distinguished look. It's plenty comfortable and interior is handsome. But that's where the story ends bud. |

You can keep it. |

A sporty car? Guess it depends on one's definition of sporty. Sounds like it would be a sporty grocery-getter to me. Ie, better performance than your average grocery-getter but still a grocery-getter.
A sports car? I don't think the Maxima fits in anyone's definition of sports car. Or at least anyone that I would listen to. ;) |
no
|
Not a sports car. And I'd take my 2008 Acura TL Type S anyday over a Maxima.

I think if the Maxima had a geared AT, I'd really consider one. I was opposed to the 8th gen styling but after driving a few of them I grew to like it. |

Sorry if you felt uncomfortable for my thread. I forgot to put a proper link. I love my 370Z and will never get it changed to any new Civic R, but I just got surprised after reading that article. ;) Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |
I'll give it to Honda, they can make some good handling FWD cars.

In that Maxima's case, it has 300HP around so I believe the best CVT can cover it enough. It is just my thought. :) Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |
