Supra claims to benchmark the Cayman. Hmmm Nissan got to 9/10ths with the Z. Let's see

Definitely see design cues from the FT1 peaking through the camo. If only.

That means it will be a 370Z competitor, not a GTR competitor. I feel bad for the Supra fans. It's also a German knockoff. What a shame.

IMHO, the 10 year old 370Z looks better than this new Supra.

I started looking into this, with the price, power, and weight. Unless they do something really spectacular it's not looking too interesting, and definitely not ground breaking. For competitors you have to look at the same type of car that being a "Coupe" and of similar money withing a +-10% range "57-63-69k". That being said:
Audi TT RS
Merc E100 Coupe
Chevy Corvette
Shelby GT350
Jaguar F-Type
Camaro ZL1
Cadilac ATS-V Coupe
Dodge Challenger Hellcat
Lexus RC F
BMW M4
Alfa 4C

If it's a no frills non luxury car your basically competing with American cars. And they are turning out to be decent handling cars too and start at 400hp/tq range.

Also doesn't look like the supra will be offered in manual, while at least half of the ones you listed offer manual.

Realistically it sounds like a 60k bmw Z4 with a supra badge on it, one of the pictures the shifter even looks like a straight bmw shifter.

I am going to hold final judgement for now, but so far it seems like the car is being catered to the nameplate generation.

The original Supra was known for it's engine. This was a moment Toyota couldve returned to its glory with an in house turbo 6. They passed on that.

Then they had a chance to hit the 3,000lb mark us at Nissan were pining for... they passed on that too. Price is going to play a huge part with those failures. Judging by 86 prices... I'm expecting a bloated sticker.

This car is going to be a bust unless you're such a fanboy that you buy one only to drop a 2JZ into it.

Spooler 07-18-2018 12:10 PM

It's official. Toyota has lost it's way.

Last Supra stacked up better against the 911. They pussed out and just defamed the Supra name by coming out with a lesser car. Ie every gtr generation has surpassed the performance of the last, even the z has too. Toyota went in the opposite direction, shoulda stayed dead imo.

Nissan needs to drop engine from q60 red sport in fm platform used in new q cars, development would cheap and they’d kill the Supra.

Every car on your list is a better buy than the new Supra imo. I think Toyota is trying not to compete against themselves (Lexus) and it hamstrung them.

For the first time in 40 years, the American market is killing the comp. Power and handling.

A 40,000 camaro SS competes against an M4
A $90,000 vette competes with Ferrari.
An ATS outhandles all the Germans.
A mustang is the current GOAT in Europe. A damn mustang.

It's hard to believe America went fro. Zero to 100 so quickly.

Our interiors still lag behind a little. But the vette and camaro equipped with MRC are considered to have the best suspensions in ANY price range out to exotics.. That's just something that I didn't expect from America. We know we can make an engine! But this suspension came out of left like a bitch slap to the auto market. Chevy stole the handling crown from the Germans n Japanese. So I'm waiting to see if a supra can attack a vette in handling? Lol. It should be the other way around.

:iagree:
I'm glad Nissan still makes a Z and GTR. But they are a rabid disappointment. They make a mockery of the nismo name with leaf and sentra.

They destroyed the juke power plant in the kicks like a bunch of Toyota Honda geeks

They're gonna end up like Toyota/Lexus.
Putting out bloated sports cars with kooky design like the RCF. I don't think the GTR will lack. But it will be overpriced.
