While bimmerphiles are trying to hang on to a lost era!

There's a car better than the 3 series in every way... It's called the JAGUAR XE SERIES.
The saloon world is NOW run by 2 cars right now... The new Jaguar and the Mercedes C450AMG sport. I'm a fan of our new luxury automotive entries. Not only have Jaguar and BMW brought new benchmarks into the arena. They've embraced cutting edge design. Not saying the Bimmer is ugly by any means, but it does carry the same overall look with newer enhanced character lines...
With Alfa's Giulia coming. BMW may wa t to...
Find better exhaust tuning. Rethink hydraulic steering or dumb down the current electronic steering to improve felt feedback.

I like the XE. Not a fan of MB's new sedan style, though.

What I love about the BMWs is they look, to me, classic and understated. From the interior to the exterior, they aren't as out there as some of the new stuff.

The Jag that excites me most, though, is that new SUV. :icon17:

I think MB brought it, UK BROKE IT and Alfa murdered em... I think bimmer is losing it as a whole. I understand they're trying to be more luxury... Their marketing scheme is one huge oxymoron

m4a1mustang 01-06-2016 02:07 PM

I dunno, I think they're going to be fine. :icon17:

I just can't get behind Mercedes' new sedan styling. I like the AMG GTS btu the sedans look a little ridiculous to me with the HUGE mouths on the front.

The Jags look nice and sleek, especially the F Pace, which is probably the prettiest SUV I've ever seen.

BMW just looks like classic BMW to me, which I appreciate.

I think that's something people need to understand... BMW is never going to be edgy. They are very conservative.

They definitely ****** up with their EPAS tuning, though they have been improving it each year it seems. I recently drove a new X3 and it felt more like "old BMW" than my 3 does.

And for proper disclosure, while I love Mercedes F1 and Lewis Hamilton, I have a bit of a bias against Mercedes road cars after a horrible CLK500 ownership experience. Loved the car... when it worked. :icon17:

Different era... Bimmer isn't edgy but they lost the formula that made them great after the e46. I had the chance to drive the e46 and e92 back to back.... Yeah... Bimmer lost a lot in translation

I don't agree with that at all. I like the E92/E90 a lot. They are small, tight, and offer great feedback to the driver. They are different from the E46, sure, but they still drive "like a BMW."

The F series cars picked up more luxury and lost some of that traditional "BMW feel," which I hope comes back (I see promise in certain models).

That's the fun in it, though. You could say the same thing about the E46 vs the E30. There's tons of debate within BMW circles as to which is the "greatest" generation. Everyone has a different answer.

I do like that Mercedes has stepped up their game in the sport/handling department. They were lacking in that area for a long time but some of their recent offerings are great performers, whether I'm attracted to them or not.

Jaguar is similar... they are in the middle of reinventing themselves to the point where they are starting to be relevant again. The XE and F Pace are going to be big for them, I believe. The Tata group has definitely taken them in the right direction.

I still think the BMWs drive better than the Mercs even though the Mercs may actually perform a little better. They just don't have the same feel IMO. Havent driven the Jag so I cant say anything about that.

:iagree: I thoroughly enjoy driving my F30, even if the steering doesn't offer the same feedback as the E series.

There is no doubt that the rest of the world has caught up and offer great products, but I still like me some BMWs.

The e92 gives a well dampened ride, but the suspension tuning is way sportier on the e46... Feels like a BMW... I can agree with that... But, I can't agree that it offers the same road feel. Not in the least. It feels connected to the road, yes. But the e46 makes better sounds, sits a little lower, feels a little more nimble... I prefer it. The only advantage the e92 has is a noticeable power bump and an updated interior.

The Benz C400... Wow... Electronic steering that gives you feedback. And it's not artificial. However slightly muted. The Benz is well weighted. It's more ergonomically correct with seat adjusters on the door. The sounds are slightly better on the Benz. The 450AMG sport is supposed to have killer exhaust tuning. I think the new Benz compared to the e92 is leagues better. I gotta try the 4 series but with all I've heard. It seems the only fans of its performance and tuning are people who swear by bimmer. Me as an enthusiast... I'm always looking for more... The Benz won me over... The jag will be here soon but all reviews are crazy... The Giulia... A Ferrari tuned, turbo 6... Need I say more???

Bimmer... Hasn't impressed me over the last 9 years. Sorry... And it seems there are a lot of excuses for it's shortcomings. The price is high for what it lacks... Lackluster steering and handling gaps on track in comparison to the ATS-V and c63amg.

Like I said before. Bimmer isn't a bad car. Just highly overrated and I think other cars are eclipsing. Let the M4 drop in price about $10,000 and mayyyybe... I'd see it as a tougher competitor Buying brand new... Not where I'd be looking to drop $82,000.

When Giulia comes... Watch out.

Jag? They can stay in the kitty litter.
