2016 Porsche Cayman GT4
To be released fall of this year.. thoughts as I'm clueless on the topic of Porsche anything. Was looking to get into a new M3 sedan and totally ditch the 2-seater but the new Motor Trend mag peaked my interest with the GT4.
|
As a former Cayman owner GET it! They're amazing! Nothing handles like a mid engine porsche!
|
GT4-Girl??? Not bad, not bad at all:)
|
Sign me up for a 2015 Porsche Cayman GT4 any day of the week. I could
then go out and spank many. The only thing to go would be the exhaust system. Would add a FI dual exhaust system with surround sound. End of story. -Clifford  |
Thanks for the info but why only 385hp? M3, m4, c63 etc for much less money with 400 plus hp.
|
If it's anything like the past cars, it will be light, and 385 HP will be plenty to have fun with.
The most recent M3 was like 3700 lbs IIRC (and I'm someone will correct me if I don't) and the Cayman is well under 3000 lbs. Light cars are better. You can always add more HP to a big boat of a car to get the job done, but the best is a light car with enough power. Guess how much HP a diesel locomotive has? :icon17: |
As Davey have said look at the power to weight ratio plus the balance of a mid engine is unbeatable.

Or, drive a Cayman (several in fact) and you may just get the package of the car and quickly forget that more power is not necessarily better. I suggest driving both the base and S models, as they may suit you fine at a huge discount over the hard to get GT4 (I doubt they will go for MSRP as a special model). You also want to find roads that are not strait :) - b |
the cayman GT4 is nice but the major fail with it is they left the PDK tranny on the shelf. one of the better DCT's on the market but they decided to not use it at all. not even an option. 6MT only.
good job Porsche. |
also the other issue is the price. bases at 84K and by the time you add any little extra you're looking at 100K in the end.
in a heartbeat I would go buy a 2015 GT-R over a little baby 911 (w/o a PDK tranny) any day of the week. the car is overpriced and lacking in my opinion. |
I wouldn't track it...shameful I know. So the pdk I don't think I'd miss. Definitely want a bit of comfort as it would be a dd and occasional road trip car 5hrs max. FPenvy if the price nears 100k the GTR would be back on the table. The Cayman is just so cute though!!!

I think it looks good but the price is outlandish for a cayman. in the end the money just isn't worth it in my mind. |
Never in my life seen a gtr for 80k. Slightly used sure but my dealer for premium is $92k and track $105k. :(

2014s are around 75-83K avg lately. sidenote: i know a lot of dealerships were dropping 2015 prices big time recently and maybe back at it now with the 2016 already out. dealers should be around 85-90k themselves. |

That being said, that PDK is one helluva tranny :yum: |

But I don't want to turn this into another AT vs MT thread. We already have a really good one of those going  OP, I just did an oil and transmission fluid change for a local Z owner that drove a Cayman for a few days before eating the deposit and trading it for a 370Z :driving: It wasn't the GT4, of course. |

But i do have to get my arse in a Cayman, to at least see what all this hubub is about. |

Z-Girl, Follow this thread from Nagtroc.
I was on the fence of getting a new 14 last year for $84k from Portland, OR. But in my mind, I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money to drive that rocket ship on my tiny island. Lol... You said, "In my lifetime".:tiphat: |
Your way too late to get one....all the orders have been taken and the slots are all gone for the first batch. Now, people with less sense than money are dumping their year old Cayman GTS to get the GT4. GTS is a very good car in itself. I had my 997 C4S serviced at a local Porsche dealer, and we talked the GT4 and the allocations. All gone. High volume dealers got 4 slots, low volume only got 1 slot. Some got none at all. People are scouring the country to find slots. And they are paying big money without ever even seeing the car.

I would possibly get a cayman through the auction for the price but probably never a 911. even at the auction they are overpriced. at a dealership they're grossly overpriced lol 911 turbo S bases at like $183K? fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that lol rather go get a McLaren 570S and smack the 911 around. the 570 is starting at the exact same price as the 911 turbo S and looks better plus has more powahhhhhhhh (even if it's only 2bhp :stirthepot:) |
Looks better is debatable, and the Porsche would probably do better around the track.
Not a huge fan of the McLarens (aside from the F1, SLR, and P1 of course). They look pretty plain and boring to me. Porsche's are expensive, but hold their value (or increase in) very well. |

The Caymen GTS is a very much upgraded, from the Caymen S. But a Caymen GTS is still pretty pricey but guys are wanting to sell them to get the cash ready for the GT4. The Porsche dealers are really screwing them on the trade, them really mark up the GTS Caymen (for now) as a used car. The 997 based 911 GT3 with a stick have gone up in price from the MSRP, since the 991 GT3 is PDK only. As I've learned, the Porsche world is a whole new experience....
