2016 Porsche Cayman GT-4

I had recently come across an article detailing the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT-4.

Check out the pics below... but take note 385 HP out of a 3.8 Flat-6. Basically a detuned 911 with superbly better handling.

Detuned? It's the exact engine out of the Carrera S, isn't it?

And yes, I think it's pure sex. And for an AMAZING price. Within the price range, I think you'd be a fool to get any other model.

Super Werty 02-05-2015 01:01 PM

This is what the benchmark for the next Z should be.. Performance.. Price.. Etc. But sadly I doubt it will

DLSTR 02-05-2015 01:15 PM

Ive seen these being tested around here pre production. Yes. YESSSSSSSSS dear GODS of the universe I want that lol!

I'm sure Nissan can match all the performance numbers but not sure if they will be able to match the precision feel, and composed ride of this GT-4. Keep in mind, this car starts at $85K, no options yet!! A new 2015 GTR with dealer incentive of $10K off is the same price.

FPenvy 02-05-2015 01:20 PM

wait............6 speed manual is the only option? no DPK shown on the site?

i'm out. the DPK transmission is pretty sick. not sure why they would leave that out when it is the only option in the 911's

6MT-Z34 02-05-2015 01:27 PM

That is gorgeous looking car..need to start saving up :bowrofl:

Even though the DPK is much faster than the manual transmission, I'm glad that they decided to keep it and make only a manual, i would love to own one of them one day with a manual transmission...plus nowadays its harder to find good sports car with manual transmissions....but i think the main reason for it was strategy..if people do want a porsche "track ready" car but auto will need to get a GT3, guess its a way for them to keep them from "stealing" sells of their 911 line up

They brought a manual only because people were asking for it. The GT3 came out with PDK only and has received a lot of **** for not having a manual box. The lead designer, himself, said that this isn't the car for the people who want the final 1/10s out of their car. This is for people who want to feel their car which is why they spent even more time tuning the steering response and the manual box.

Evo has a pretty good interview on it.

Considering the prices of what mid engine machines are out there - this is the best of the bunch given the price and capability. Seriously why spend more unless you need the badge to make you feel all happy.
I need to make some calls over to Zuffenhausen(20min away) and get my azz a test of this little gem :)

kenchan 02-05-2015 04:19 PM

If I remember correctly it was £60k or something.... which is what, $90k? Taxes will be different so total won't be a direct carry over but it gives you an idea.

For the longest time, my mind was set on a used 911 Carrera S as a retirement present for myself. Now I'm going to have to reconsider, this car is beautiful.

BlackZeda 02-06-2015 08:22 AM

What? The Z is a much tougher, better looking car.

The Z is not mid engine, it is not this at all. I love the Z but lets be real. This thing is on another planet. Great proportions, race proven motor/brakes etc. Not too big like so many mid engine machines. Id sell my soul and more for this - New Porsche Cayman GT4 Hits The Track: Video

optiontrader 02-06-2015 05:06 PM

I wasn't a fan of the Cayman design before the recent overhaul; but now - both the Cayman and Boxster are sex with four wheels.

One of the last few remaining, mid-engine, manual transmission options? I'm sold.

RoshDawg 02-07-2015 11:59 AM

I drove a base boxster for a weekend and had an absolute BLAST. I cannot even fathom how amazing this car is going to be. And being a GT_ car it will hold its value well. You have to be crazy to buy anything else in this price range!
I agree they had to keep in 6MT only to not steal sales from the GT3.
With this car, were at the absolute peak of driver oriented sports cars. 6mt, RWD, mid engine, straight 6 engine for under 100k (even with the bucket seats). You can't get any better than that.

Believe it's a flat 6. ;)

optiontrader 02-07-2015 12:15 PM

I believe so too - horizontally opposed Boxster engine. Any know if it's dry sump (I'd imagine so)?

Using the technical definition of mid-engine, it is (FM). The center of mass of the engine is between the front and rear axles. But most people just assume that mid-engine only refers to the rear configuration (RM) that you see in most Porsches.

911's are rear engine cars. Not rear mid-engine. The motor is out the back. Boxster and Cayman are mid engine. Z might be technically mid but its got understeer initially like any other nose heavy machine. Mid engine in the classic sense has less.

If no PDK, guess this is for the guys and gals who demand a third pedal??? Agree on the "pass".

Anyway, lookswise: love it, except for the seemingly immutable VW bug headlamps.

EDIT: I recant that last bit; they were clearly ripped off a still running MR-S. Okay then

Spooler 02-08-2015 12:11 PM

If Nissan goofs up the next Z, I will be looking into one of these.

$85,000? I wish! Base price is $82,000. Try $100,000 when you add A/C, stereo and a few creature comforts. For this price. I'm now looking Type R's, Vipers.
