Northwest Track Day/Auto-X/Drag Strip Thread

Hey all, figured I'd start a thread specifically for sharing events, results and pics of track days, drag racing and autocrossing or anything racing-related like arranging a meet at a karting place like Pacific Grand Prix to either race or watch a drifting event or whatever.

Anyhow, to start it off, I'll be out in Spec Jay's neck of the woods next Sunday 5-29 for the BSCC Novice Autocross event, check out the link if interested.

Quite well due to the handling. The straights though they pull ahead. With the HPDE days they will get flagged if they don't let the "faster" car by. I've been passing quite a few lately due to my setup and general driving since everyone drives at their comfort level.

The best compliment I got was from a driver of an Audi R8. We were playing tag a bit during the session, afterwards I went to say hi and he says "your car is quick"………I'm still smiling about that.

Sunday's BSCC Novice Auto-X

Here's a few pics from last Sunday, had an absolute blast but after that I'm afraid I'm going to have to start taking it seriously... :driving: My best time with one cone down was a 67.489, the best time I saw was an instructor's ~61s run in a Tacoma X-runner of all things, but then serious skill and slick tires can make a huge difference!

^ Nice! Car sounds good! Now …..the coilovers

Titan1080 05-31-2011 10:13 PM

Thanks! I'm thinking baby-step my way to coilovers, some Stillen sway bars would help level out some of that body roll from being so high off the ground...

there's a lapping day at PGP on June 8th, here's a link with more info if anyone wants to come

At some point this summer I plan on taking a day off for that, probably sometime in July or August when the weather has the least probability of rain.

Don't need to do much other than show up to an event, register and start driving. I'm going to try and make the July 3rd event with BSCC and the NWDE Clothing Optional event  on July 10th.

plan on August 10th, I'm trying to get together a diverse crowd of imports for that day, so its not just 15 s2k's and 3 other cars... :D

I ran low on fuel twice. 30 minutes each session almost seemed endless. Great times with some extremely proficient/fast drivers.

Titan1080 07-23-2011 12:58 AM

If anyone wants to watch me potentially crash into a small pond, I'll be running in the afternoon car lapping session at Pacific Grand Prix next Wednesday! lol Looking forward to getting whatever life is left in my stock tires, they picked up a lot of clag at my last auto-x and it didn't wear off on the drive home :P

Lapping at PGP

So yeah, that was a helluva lot of fun! Ran in the afternoon session from 1230 to 430 and got about six 15-minute sessions in, a lot of track time. I definitely recommend an oil cooler if you do one of those days when it's hot out, I came ever so close to 260 a couple times before I pitted to cool down mid-session. Apart from that, the stock brakes did very well, I felt no sign of fade and the fluid didn't appear to boil. Didn't quite wear the stock Bridgestones out yet but towards the end it was getting easier to break the rear loose, which made a couple tight corners a little easier. Had the GF snap the pics from the observation deck above the track and from the bleechers at the end of the front straight, speaking of which:

So what was your highest and average gears for that course? Coilovers my friend!

Titan1080 07-30-2011 04:35 PM

2nd gear for most of the track, the front straight is a little too long to stay in 2nd but way too short to leg out 3rd so I short-shifted and got a little bit over 70 before the first turn. Gonna be a while before coilovers, but yeah, wouldn't mind a little drop.

FI would go a long ways on the above track. The Porsche club has 4 days reserved next year. Do a Porsche skills day at Bremerton first and I'll be able to sponsor you into a HPDE

Filipeanutz 12-06-2011 11:50 AM

pretty sick.
just want to give a heads up though, I highly recommend blocking out your plates because I have heard from local drifters that some insurance companies will actually browse forums and void your insurance if they see your car racing in the track. Its probably very rare, I only know of one person that this happened to.

Nikon FM 12-07-2011 06:44 PM

These are not "racing" events but club sponsored driver training to help each of us become better/safer drivers 8 )

Filipeanutz 12-07-2011 06:50 PM

Ic. Just a heads up then.

The Ridge Motorsports Park

Im going to try to get the car ready for the begging of 2012 for the early year events and I hope you all can make it out there. Even if you don't participate, it's a nice way to relax I think. I should not be deployed but who knows, I found this on there website as the first events of the year:

The Ridge Motorsports ParkRidge Racing -

Edit: I just watched the video, pretty fast course.

Nikon FM 01-01-2012 09:14 PM

For some warm up prior to the Ridge try the PR Winter test and tune starting on 2/4/12. $100 gets a whole day of seat time.

Looks like a nice run at Bremerton!

Pacific Raceways may be open on Saturday's during the winter. Last year it was great. Show up on a dry winter Saturday, pay $100 and get over 2 hours of seat time on the track! This year has yet to be announced but stay "tuned"….pun intended.

Titan1080 09-05-2012 08:49 PM

Was a fairly fast course this time! My times were reasonable before cone penalties, I thought I hit 2 maybe 3 cones on one run but the results all say I never hit more than one... then again I was not impressed with the cone workers and the radio operators.

Results for Class SA

Did you happen to pull that oil cooler off your Z before you sold it?

Nikon FM 09-08-2012 12:41 PM

Everything stock and non-stock was sold with the car…sorry about that. I have a bunch of 5w-30 Amsoil I can't use though. You are welcome to it.

Iv'e been having a great time running the 996TT on the track and daily driving it. I've definitely put some more cash into the car as I've worked through weak points based on it's age and previous owners "handling". Next up is clutch/light weight flywheel and then a bunch of upgrades to stock components.

Titan1080 09-09-2012 02:02 AM

Nice! That must be a fun ride. I'm definitely interested in picking up that Amsoil, I'll give you a buzz sometime soon. I was looking at flywheel/clutch combos the other day and I'm thinking down the line that is something I want to get eventually, after two sets of tires, coilovers, oil cooler....

almost went today but I stopped by the opening for california tint.

deuce189 03-18-2013 08:39 AM

I was almost about to go myself, but got up too late and didn't feel like getting the later ferry. Next time i will though.

Titan1080 03-18-2013 09:48 PM

^^I drive around, cheaper and the ferry doesn't save you much time unless there's a bunch of traffic.

Spec Jay 03-19-2013 10:00 PM

ah didn't know there was an event lol. next time. I wanna do a day at the ridge.
