Sick of winter yet?

I want to get my Z out of my gravel driveway. Anytime I think I can, another round of snow comes and keeps my grounded. More snow tomorrow. Not buying snow tires since this is my third car. I am starting the official I hate winter thread.

m4a1mustang 12-13-2013 09:06 AM

I want more snow so I can drive more in the snow. :)

1st 12-13-2013 01:21 PM

Ca doesn’t get snow but yes I hate the winter. Rain and coldness I can’t stand so F the winter.

Verbal21 12-13-2013 02:52 PM

How many of you guys are driving your Z's in the snow?

Chef kid 12-13-2013 03:34 PM

I got it out today. Driveway cleared out pretty good with sun out. 3-6 inches expected tomorrow. However, looks close to 50 late next week!

I drove in light flurries last year with summer tires. With the expected 1-3 inches of snow, I won't be driving this weekend :(

As long as there isn't salt or ice on the roads, I'm good to go.

IKR?! :wtf:

TerribleONE 12-13-2013 05:51 PM

No snow where I am at, but the rain and wind has been keeping the Z in the garage lately. I did take her out today though :driving:

FuTuRe is Z 12-14-2013 12:39 AM

I think I may become a snow bird, it just seems as if no one goes out and everyone hates life in the winter. Also it's just so damn cold, tires don't grip at all, at least I don't have to worry about high oil temps. :D

Chef kid 12-14-2013 08:02 AM

On the bright side I installed my LEDs yesterday. They look great with a blue interior. Too bad I won't drive it for probably a week or more. Maybe winter tires in my future just to drive it more in the winter. No snow or salt. Just for the cold days and get out of my driveway. It slopes and always has slush and ice at the bottom of it.

A good set of performance winters perform masterfully in cold weather. I have Michelin Alpin PA4s (245/45 square) mounted to base Enkei wheels. The tires are super grippy and responsive on dry pavement so I can still have tons of fun. In my limited testing so far they work great in the wet stuff... hoping we get some more snow soon so I can give them a test in deeper stuff.

I heard the best winter tire for our cars is the pirelli sottozero's. I have my z parked in the car for the season now but if i were to run it all winter long those are the tires i would use.

I have the Sottozero Serie II on my wife's Focus ST. I also ran the Serie II on my S2000. They are good tires for sure. Good on dry/wet pavement and good in the snow. I do think the Alpin PA4s outperform them in the dry, but I can't really compare them in the snow yet as I've only had the PA4s out in about 1-2" of snow/slush so far.

The new Sottozero 3 is out now. They completely changed the tread pattern vs. the Serie I and Serie II to more of what Dunlop uses with the Wintersport line (I had Wintersport M3s on my 5.0.) I haven't seen much in the way of reviews on them though as they are still very new.

Gadgetech 12-14-2013 09:34 AM

andre12031948 12-14-2013 09:49 AM

I wish it was 80 here in the great white north.

Joelito 12-14-2013 10:04 AM

Daily driven here, salt or no salt. As long as there's no accumulation for me to get stuck on, she's going out

The only time i wouldnt care was if i was leasing the vehicle.

m4a1mustang 12-14-2013 10:25 AM

I don't really care about salt. Just have to run it through the touchless wash after any significant build up and it's fine. Detail the car in spring and fall and you're good to go. There's only so much you can do with Nissan paint, though. At the end of the day you just have to remember it's just a car.

Which I am, so that explains it lol, I mean I baby the **** out of my car even though it's a lease but yea it would probably not see winter if I owned it and it was my weekend car. I kind of enjoy the luxury of being able to use it everyday though without thinking twice. My friend has a nismo he got 3 years ago and has like 2000 miles. Can't enjoy it as much starring at it in the garage.

Way back in 2005 I leased an rx8 and when it came time to hand back in it was nothing but a headache. They tried to rape me with a whole bunch of extra charges that were not even legitimate. That kind of steered me away from leasing again.

Chef kid 12-14-2013 05:13 PM

Just got down shoveling the driveway a second time. 4-5 inches of that heavy snowball making snow.

I'm on my 3rd straight lease. Never had a problem. Maybe it was just Mazda. My dad never had a problem with his BMWs either upon returns. If all goes as planned, this will be my last lease.

DOM_370z 12-15-2013 08:02 AM

I'm so tired of this weather/snow we are getting on the east coast.. wish i was lucky to be on the west coast.

nmjaxx9 12-15-2013 03:21 PM

Wheeeeeee :inoutroflpuke:

Kinda sad how all these weather peeps think they control the weather, making you think something is wrong. :roflpuke2:

When the weather is just perfect, Z is garaged though

CrownR426 12-15-2013 07:36 PM

I've driven my Z during winter time, I wish I invested in winter tires.
I don't think you really need 18's just snow tires on 19's should be good too.

kittens 12-24-2013 10:44 AM

Nice break of 60 degree weather in Connecticut. Now back to the cold stuff:( I drove in the snowstorm last week and as long as I made sure to avoid hills I was fine :) just had a wash and wax and looks good to me

kfull 12-24-2013 09:58 PM

I'm rocking blizzak lm-60's. They're great in the snow. Hoping for another storm!

AestheticCM1 12-29-2013 10:05 PM

I thought my old 328i was tricky in the snow until I drove the Z with summer tires in 2 inches of snow-- it was easily one of the least favorite drives of my life.

Chef kid 01-06-2014 06:31 PM

-6 to -9 tonight in pgh. This may be the longest winter in a while. But, 40's by weekend. It was 50 yesterday.

It felt like i was driving on a hockey ring. With the blizzac lm 32 tires it fell like im driving on a football field.:driving::tup:

Lamrocks 02-02-2014 05:38 PM

I started mine up today seeing it was almost 50 out my way today but sadly it hasn't left the garage since October. I'm hoping for just one more month of cold so I can drive it again.

dudesky 02-02-2014 07:23 PM

you guys like driving on snow? yea sure...all that salt eating up your underbody... good luck

bkjunk 02-02-2014 07:33 PM

It was close to 80 in San Antonio yesterday, washed the car and tried the electric blower for drying. It actually worked pretty well, I see a foam gun in my future. Anyway I wake up to 37 degrees and raining this morning. It's been one of the longer and colder winters in recent memory. I feel for you guys up north I spent 4 years Minneapolis and 7 months of winter was more than I could take.

Chef kid 02-03-2014 02:32 PM

Drove the car for the first time in a month. At least it's February. March is around the corner.
