The state of NJ is in a fiscal shambles... I'm sure the local cops are constantly being pressured to give out tickets for any offense, regardless how insignificant, to raise revenue. I feel sorry for guys like you who have been driving without a front plate for years without issue... It must feel like they changed the law without telling you in your eyes. :shakes head:
I just wish they would crack down more on people on their phones in the car... They are the ones who really make the roads unsafe!!! |
WOW... Hell yeah.
I see so many idiots on their cellphones doing the craziest **** possible on the roads. The other day a state policemen didn't even stop 2 people infront of me using their cellphone's while driving. Gotta love it. |
Should we start putting up pics of alternative installs for front plates that don't require a drill? I know Stillen has a tow hook plate holder but i imagine that will blank like half of the intake.
STILLEN : STILLEN Front License Plate Bracket (Digs around for a shot of the front intake...) Yah, not sure how that would end up looking. |
My 2nd time getting pulled over by a cop in my Z :shakes head: . Cop was really cool considering he was a State Trooper. State Trooper WILL give you a ticket if they pull ANYONE over. But he was a young guy and I honestly answered every question he asked ( I personally think he really liked my car). So far I have been lucky

LOL! AK, what'd you do?
How the heck did u have a camcorder on you too?! Staged! |
As a cop I have to admit the front plates are stupid. Even the toll cameras are usually positioned to pick up the rear plate. We don't have them in OK which is good but I see no use for them.
Sorry about your ticket CrownR426, must have been a slow day to mess with ya over a front tag. I know I'm wouldn't be getting out in the rain over a front tag ticket, I've got real criminals to catch.:bowrofl: |
I refuse to put my front plate on lol. 80% of the time I get pulled over by a texas trooper when I drive outta town for no front plate but I've been lucky enough to get warnings every single time. I heard Texas is going to join the states that do not require a front plate.
the idea of requiring a front plate IS stupid. when they finally do away with that law that'll save them 50% cost by only having to manufacturer half the amount of plates..besides it's not like they're going to charge us any less when they start sending drivers only one plate. |

Oh well I mean it is illegal so I'm okay with that. I must admit I did deserve that ticket though... |
I was pulled over yesterday by a young state trooper (WA) and he was pretty rude. He was using his laser to check speed and noticed that I didn't have a front plate. I think they use the front plate as a target for the laser. He was talking to me from the passenger side (even though we were in a parking area) and my golder retriever tried to say hello. He told me to "get that dog out of my face" and went back to his car to write a ticket. Came back a few minutes later handed me my license and registration and told me to put on the front plate - no ticket. I was in law enforcement for over 30 years and still have some friends there - maybe they helped out.

NOT FOR ME in ILLINOIS
Illinois is one of the dieing breed of states to require a front plate also. I was stopped several years ago for no front plate on my Impala SS. The officer knew it was illegal but she couldn't find the code to write the ticket. After radioing her boss and asking him (He didn't know either) she finally (after about a half an hour) told me to go on my way (no ticket). I have several friends on the local force and they too do not have any idea why Illinois still demands a front plate. You can't see them at night and the officers have to get right up behind you to read the rear plate to call it in.
But you have to remember that Illinois is all about the MONEY (Past Governor is waiting and the Governor before him is in a Fed Jail) and maybe someone is getting paid off to make sure we still have them. Who knows........... So I don't run them on my X-Runner or my Z. But I do run them on the Wife's 300C (See has the grand-kids an awful lot). :tiphat: |
I have yet to get stopped for not having my plate in front, and in one case it actually saved me. The only time so far I've been stopped in my 370Z was for going... well, we'll just say recklessly fast for a short stretch of open highway road at around 3am. The cop gave me a ticket for the license plate instead of the speed (I would have lost my license) - I guess because I was honest, polite, had no points, conditions were dry, there was no traffic and I did not carry my speed. Still I know how lucky I am. He also asked if my windows were tinted - I've had tinted windows on previous cars and have gotten that instead of a speeding ticket as well.
So it's nice to be able to give the cops options when they're willing to let you off the hook. Speaking of tinted windows - do NOT drive through Marlboro or Freehold townships in Monmouth County if you can avoid it. Marlboro has pulled me over twice and warned me once for having window tint (ANY tint on front windows is illegal in NJ - you can't even pass state inspection). Freehold pulled me over once and actually handed me a court summons and I had to appear and show the officer there that my tint had been removed, along with the ticket and court surcharge. Marlboro you can just pay online. |

WTF do you think? your lucky you didnt get a ticket for loud music, which actually cost money instead of two fix it tickets. :shakes head: |
Here's the answer to all your woes:
Amazon.com: Show N Go License Plate Holder: Automotive Though it is specifically advertised for Vette use, this device fits on any car make or model. Takes 10 minutes to put on any car. The funny part is that before getting this holder for my Cobra I was stopped and ticketed twice. Once I put the flip-holder on I always had the license tucked away in its hidden position....and I drove the car for over a year with the plate hidden and never got stopped again. Go figure....In any case the flip holder works great and gives you the choice to show or no-show. Great for those who do car shows and don't want the plate exposure ruining the front look of the vehicle. |
if your front license plate is tilted down like the JDM versions, is it a violation?
