You'd think that using a decade (more than that by now) old platform and an existing engine would save them a buttload of money and effort that could go into fixing some of basic weaknesses of the car
Nissan's gotta be saving even more money than Toyota did by borrowing the Z4 platform, right? The new Z's only improvements are using the newer engine and correcting the CSC issue (right?) Where is the camber/caster adjustment? Cooling upgrades? Diff upgrades? |
I really like the styling of the Nismo (know that looks are subjective) and the color they chose is really nice as well since it has those blue undertones. Like others have said - I really wish Nissan would have said 'F it' - lets build this one to go out with a bang and give the enthusiasts what they all wanted as well as punch that Supra in the mouth with under promising and over delivering on the the new Z; unfortunately this looks like it will be a body kit, seats and a different tune to justify the higher price tag.
As for the it being auto only - not to sound like an elitist - but that was when I tapped out on it - love the color and everything but I'm sure there is nothing on that Nismo that would justify an 'auto only' type of car. Maybe we expected too much from Nissan when the new Z was being released - before it was released - we all thought - this would be a car that would look to give the car enthusiast what they want - twins, a great looking body along with being able to compete toe to toe with the Supra and not cost an arm and a leg - unfortunately not only did this car disappoint when comparing it to the Supra and other competitors but they really 'screwed the pooch' on delivering the car to the masses - heck I think even the Supra released their manual before most got their hands on a manual Z. /rant |
The 2020 model is HANDS DOWN the better looking Nismo...and you could even get in manual! Wish I could go back in time and buy one brand new off the lot in the pre-flu era for the Canadian equivalent of $37,000 USD:

i almost bought the last new Nismo in the country. I signed for it with my dealership but they couldn't get it from the dealer in calgary that had it.
In the end I'm very happy with my sport. And I've grown to dislike the v2 bodykit. The new nismo looks fine, only because the base car was so ugly. everything is hideous compared to this tho https://i.redd.it/1ud4ittngxn51.jpg |
I saw a yellow Z35 this past weekend. Did not break my neck like the first time I saw a Z34. I immediately drove to dealer, they sold it a day prior for $84,000. Was the only one they had.

84k for the regular Z
some idiots are gonna pay 100k for the nismo and wind up with something worse than a lightly used GTR |

So my local dealer has one with 30,000+ miles and wants over 50k. Odd though as they are calling it a Sport, but its in the yellow, and the vin# is 210. 310210. The limited edition Proto one I saw before had a slightly higher vin#. So I gotta say, this one looks like they took a Proto, stripped the wheels and calipers, and turned it back into a Sport. Weird. I looked at it just a few minutes ago in person. The front splitter has a big ¼" chip, and the hood has a bunch of little 1/16” chips all over it. Nissan paint sucks. Heres the splitter chip.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cf532d5c6e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...06b822190a.jpg |

I really think something smells fishy with this car. Miles, price, vin#, Proto color, regular wheels and ugly calipers. And are the stock Nissan hamburgers normally highlighted with white?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...84dbcb047f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ad7e20ec75.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...161f7c17f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...53024a32fd.jpg

The new Z is too boxy for my taste, and I really appreciate the curves on the 370Z. |
I just feel like with Nissan struggling like they are and basically using existing parts and an engine from another car - I just feel like 'why would ANYONE pay ADM' on this car. I feel like this car isn't going to be a special one - except for maybe the proto or the Nismo - but if you can't get the Nismo in manual - it just doesn't feel right.
Don't get me wrong - I might be in the minority here but I do like the new Z and the fact that it is a twin turbo - I just wish that the Sport would have been $45k and the base being like $40k - bring people back to the brand - especially when there are so many vids of YT influencers and even car reviewers who while they are Z fans - aren't finding a lot of positive things to say about it. If you could get a loaded Z for about $45k - you can do A LOT with that 10k difference compared to a Supra - and you can FORGIVE a lot of shortcomings bc of the price difference. |
This Z may never make it, given the current high price and the inadequate supply of this car.
