I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'm really hoping the Z35 will include a roadster option. And maybe by then they can figure out how to make a soft top that doesn't collide with itself.

Joining the armchair speculation with not-so original takes:

Motor exists
Maybe they'll re-use a platform
Doesn't sound like there was any partnership unless I missed something.

A manual is probably still easier to manufacture and engineer around, while appealing to the same existing niche, and hopefully tipping more in favor of buyer accesibility within said niche. But if we had to settle, it give us something reliable and not a price-gouger.

Opportune time to fufill the voids of the Supra. Might not be as fast, but buyer accessibility and just meeting rather simple fanatical demands will carry more weight. I can keep nut sucking the idea of saving towards a C8 for the supercar bargain it hopefuly stays on track of being...but end of the day, I'm open to something that makes a point to not needing to spend the extra ~$30,000.

Nissan doesn't have to do rocket surgery here. Just...make the car.

Strictly speaking, the engine was developed with Mercedes

Nope. This article from Australia (where the roadster was sold for MY2020) confirms there will be no roadster option going forward:

Its obvious the writer didnt do his homework.
The bmw supra didnt get 50hp bump 1 yr after the release. It makes no sense. Its probably the same hp, but instead they didnt lie about the hp rating for the 2020 model line imo.

I'll be in my bunk!

No, there were actual changes to the engine and the Supra HP bump is legit.

The question is, is the wheelbase size going to be the same as the 370z? I hope they dont go shorter like the bmw supra.

Bro... hop over to the Supra forums. Nobody's forcing your hand to this site.

There were independent dyno testing and toyota definitely down played their hp. I assume u know this.
Similar to how McLaren did it with their 720s.
That hp figure is at the crank and again i assume u know this.
I'm not saying they didnt make any changes, but definitely not a 50hp bump for the 2020 model.
Maybe 10hp bump or something and making little changes here and there.

I'll be in my bunk!

Having the Z as the flagship is a step down imo. Let's hope they keep improving on the gtr and keep.

notice the gap in the middle of the 12 cars in the videos........that's where "g" would have landed :stirthepot:

the point of that whole video was to hype the Z. why would the tease the new GTR as well? it would totally overshadow the Z in this.

i think it's also coming but will get it's own video teaser.

Looks the new Aston Martin Vantage which is good thing. Can't wait

I'm fond of saying the 370Z is like a poor man's front engine Porsche.

This new 400Z at first glance reminds me of a poor man's Aston Martin.

Exactly what I was hoping for and expecting to be honest. They are simply updating the Z34 chassis. Nissan is not going to spend truckloads of money on developing an all-new chassis when they are struggling now. Throw in the Q60 Red Sport motor with 400hp with a manual trans, update the interior and tech, and bingo! I love how it is clean and doesn't look like it was designed by a 12-year old like the Supra. The rear taillights are supposedly inspired by the 300ZX. Bravo! (I'm a former 300ZX owner and current 370Z owner). Will be made in Japan and likely less expensive than the BMW Supra.

From what is shown so far, it certainly looks like what you are saying. Like the entire underneath could be the exact same as the current Z. Change the engine out, bolt on new body panels, put in a new interior, and they are good to go.

People are clamoring about the tranny. I get that. But what I'm concerned with is the steering. I like my old heavy feel hydraulic system. I'm not fond of new electronic systems. Sure they can have various settings etc, but the settings never seem to get it right. Add to it that some companies lump the steering setting in with tranny and engine settings (all in one sport setting) and it's not my thing at all. I'm really hoping they get the steering right, as steering feel and handling are my favorite parts of my 370Z.

Because the Z is the last letter in the alphabet lol

I am not poor, I am broke! Poor is a state of mind, broke is a temporary condition 🤣

It's just a Z now. There is an article with an interview with nissan that said they would likely drop the displacement out of the name. It was posted in here about 3 to 4 years back if your shovel is sharp enough.
