Need Help - Car Stalled and wont start

So i was driving my 09 370z and i was about 5 minutes from home and all of a sudden i lost all engine power and the car stalled out. I tried to restart and it would crank but not turn over. I was checking a few things and came to realize my oil was below the L and at just the very tip of the dipstick. Car was towed to my house and now is sitting in my driveway. I have filled up the oil and tried to restart and it starts to turn over for 1 second before just cutting out again. Do our cars have a safety measure when low on oil or do you think possibly that my engine is f'd? I am really freaking out at the moment any input would help.

thanks

so the start motor begins to turn and the stops?

what does volt gauge say when you key the car on?

What does your gas gauge say?

If you added less than 3 quarts of oil it is probably fine unless you were tracking it.

Its right at 3 quarts of oil.

it starts to turn you can even hear it out of the exhaust then stops but keeps trying to crank

i'll have to check gauges again (should i be worried to keep trying if not starting?)

full tank of gas

Beg/borrow/steal an OBD scanner and see if there are any DTCs. You can find them for as little as $25 or so. Many auto parts stores will loan/rent you one.

Edit: You can overheat the starter motor and/or battery with repeated starting attempts. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes after 2-3 attempts.

where are you at in ohio?

I'm sorry I don't understand this "it starts to turn you can even hear it out of the exhaust then stops but keeps trying to crank"

What in the hell does that mean? So you push the button the motor starts turning over but then it stops but it doesn't?

Does it start firing but fails to start and keeps cranking over? Try not to start it to much you have done anything to fix the problem so all cranking it is going to do is kill the battery if it isn't already dead and then you won't be able to start it once you do figure out whats wrong.

I don' t want to scare you, but you are describing EXACTLY what happened to me when my first short block was replaced. It was the timing chain stretched, and some other ungodly horrors brought on by excessive oil consumption......mine had only 12k at the time...... also happened less than a mile from my home. For the record, the oil light is for pressure, not level......
