Traction control light /loss of power
So about 5 weeks ago this problem started... I'm driving around 30 mph and then the tract ion control light comes on and I loose power to the throttle and can't change gears. I turn the car off and back on again and drive off like nothing happened. Over the next couple weeksit happens on and off with no real rhythm to explain it. My local Nissan dealership said they co uldn'tfigure it out. I took the car to R/T tuning in Lansdale PA to get a custom tune and they said it was the tps sensor on my passenger side throttle body which I replaced three days ago and the issue is still there. Someone please help!

saw something that may relate. issue was the ABS cause there wasn't any brake fluid or it was extremely low on fluid. it's easy to check too. good luck
Thank you I'll check it out
Just checked the brake fluid and it's on max. Also saw on another thread to check the brake switch... I dunno hope I can figure this out soon

You said RT Tuning said it was a TPS issue? |
Brake switch could do it. If its sticking its not going to let you accelerate.

No I think your right. I only tried to do a brake boosted launch once and found it quickly that it wouldnt work. I dont remember that blinking tho. These issues are truly the worst ones to try and figure out as it gets very expensive replacing parts.
I would check your ABS wheel speeds with a scanner that can see them. |
Just checking -- but is VDC off?
Yes R/T tuning said it was throwing a tps code and they checked and sure enough the passenger side throttle body had a tps sensor that was obviously cracked but I've since replaced it and it's still happening.
And to answer vdc questions I don't even know how to turn it on or off so I doubt it's that. Only had the car for about 10 weeks and with all the mods I've done all as soon as I got the car I'm still trying to bond with my new ride
Also at one point the issue was so bad I couldn't drive for 5 min without it happening so I would reflash the ecu with the uprev /Osiris tune that came with the Stillen supercharger kit and everything seemed fine for a couple days then it would start happening again but now I have a custom tune with R/T so I can't reflash
Any check engine lights?
Yes the check engine light is on
the VDC button is on the left side of the dash behind the steering wheel sort of. you won't be able to launch without turning if off after you start the car. you have a lot of power so VDC may be killing your acceleration. i think boosted Z guys either drive with VDC off or get a fancy race logic traction control system. just be careful lol
Is the vdc button also the traction control button? Cuz I've only seen one button on the left side of the steering wheel

Cool thanks

By the way depoint50.I love the snatch reference. I've seen that movie no less than 100 times and can quote every line in the movie from beginning to end and backwards
Changing the brake switch today... Please God work!
Also I thought of this... Hope someone can weigh in on this... I bought new tires and wheels but never replaced the tpms sensors. Could this be throwing up an ABS code that would contribute to the issue? I dunno just thinking
I don't think so
Where are the ABS wires?

Ok thanks, just replaced the brake switch and so far so good. We shall see. Thanks to all for the support you guys rock!
So it's not the brake switch! Please God make it stop! I can go 150 mph with total ease one min then when I slow down to a cruising speed.. Bam! On the shoulder

Beg, borrow, or steal an OBD scanner and check for DTCs. Modern cars are pretty good at self-diagnosis (but not perfect). If that doesn't tell you anything, start logging data and look for anomalies.
Sorry for the ignorance but DTC's?
I was just told that I can't do the obd because of my custom tune
By the way southark my car is originally from Arkansas! Found it on autotrader

Thank you southark! Went to autozone and got them to diagnose.. All codes are tps related! Now I know where to start. I went there once before but they're reader wasn't showing any codes and Nissan said all codes they were seeing were not current. I guess R/T tuning was on the right track. I'm guessing at this point it's one of the wires that came with the Stillen supercharger kit! At least now I know where to start! Thank the Lord
The code is saying throttle actuator or throttle positioning sensor bank 2 . can someone please tell me what bank 2 means? Maybe driver or passenger side throttle body?
You really need to get a copy of the FSM. It will tell you that Bank 2 is on the left.
Awesome thanks. Working on the car tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well
So going on advice from my man southark, this morning I checked the wire harness on the driver's side throttle body and just wiggled the wires and made sure everything appeared to have proper connections and so far so good! The last two mornings before today the car shut off on me about 5 times in roughly 4 miles but not today! Making progress!
So it's been about 4 days and no problems. It was as simple as the wire harness from Stillen wasn't connected all the way. So glad I made this thread. Thanks guys!
Now I have another problem that stems from my solution to this problem... After I replaced that throttle body I was told I had to relearn the throttle bodies so today I took it to my local Nissan dealership and they were unable to successfully complete the task and they're not sure why? My guess is I have a custom tune from r /t tuning and the uprev license won't allow them to alter anything. Can someone please weigh in on this please!
So it happened again. The wire harness I wiggled and made sure was connected is definitely defective. Ordered a new one from Stillen for the low low price of 299$ lol Wtf? For wires and some plastic lol
If you take a look at the FSM there is a way you can manually learn your TB's without the consult nissan computer.
I did it when I was having issues with my TB. |
