Steering wheel lock recall..Dallas area

I went to the dealership today to get my oil change and the service advisor alerted me that there was a recall on my Z. It was for the steering wheel lock issue. I have read on here that Nissan has finally released a recall on it but I didn't know when it was going to start.

I'm posting it here on the Texas section to let the guys here in Dallas know that the Nissan dealership on the northwest corner of DNT and 635 have 13 of these part left. The recall is for the 370z, altima, and gt-r.

I have an '09 and have not experienced the problem but I went ahead and got it replaced anyway.

Owner Notification aka Recall steering lock

Received a pleasant surprize in the mail today from Nissan Canada.

Owner Notificataion/ Service Campaign due to manufacturing irregularity.

WHAT NISSAN WILL DO

Your Nissan dealer will replace the Electic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) free of charge for parts and labour.

Lol was goin to be the first thing I was going to do when I took it out of storage, now Nissan can do it.

There's already a few other threads on this, and they're replacing with a unit that's still prone to failure, so I'd still pull the fuse after they replace it if I were you.

Is there no recall in the US?

There is. It's for 2009-2010 with Rev A or Rev B ESCL (I believe). They replace it with a Rev D, which have also been reported to fail (not as high of a failure rate as A or B). I have a 2011 with Rev D that does not fall under the recall, but I pulled the fuse months ago. The fact that mid-2011, Nissan removed the ESCL completely leads me to believe they realized the Rev D wasn't the solution. Since they are replacing the part with another part prone to failure, this recall is half-a$$ed imo :shakes head:

Glad you got it done. Sounds like you went to Bankston.

I usually go to courtesy but Bankston is a little closer to me so I may go there.

What kind of oil did you get? Just mobil 5-30?

I always get the Nissan Ester Oil 5W-30 with each change. Really good stuff and it is the recommended Oil type for the Z.

Yeah, I go there for my service. I have one of their service plans that last until 80k miles and I get whatever full synthetic oil that they're supposed to use according to my service contract. I go there because I don't have to pay for anything and I have a friend who works there as a mechanic.

I have not tried Courtesy Nissan even though they are closer to my house. I went there in '09 when I was in the market for a Z but my experience wasn't positive with one of the sales manager. So, I won't even try their service department. They're probably good but I just don't want to risk ruining my day. :)

Steering lock recall

I just got a notice from Nissan that they are correcting the steering lock problem and that I am to bring my car in for a new steering lock mechanism. Dont know if someone has already posted this but I know its been a problem and so I thought i would let everyone know in case they have not heard so far..

I have already removed the fuse././what are your thoughts on this? Should i just leave things as they are or should I have this done?

Hey Charlie... I ha en't seen you on here in forever. How you been?

As far as your car. To avoid any hassle. Just put the fuse back in and take it in.
