Ignition Coils Misfiring anyone?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. My "Service Engine Soon" light came on so I took it to the dealership. Turns out an ignition coil went bad. They replaced all six because the guy said if one fails the others will eventually follow. My car is still under factory warranty until next June. So they replace all six and two month later my light turns on again. I take it back to the dealership and they tell me one of the ignition coils is misfiring again. They're going to run some tests to see what's causing it. I called them today and they said they were going to replace a valve sprocket :/ Hopefully that works...if that fails, the guy at the dealership said they might order me a new engine. Anybody has had this problem or is just my Zoe? :/ Thanks for any input in advance.

Clovis Nissan told me to replace all six ignition coils... I asked a tech and he said that's stupid because my car wouldn't even run right. I went to Lithia Nissan down the street and they said it's not the coils but a leak in my exhaust. They said they fixed the leak but it still comes on. In the end it was my Stillen intakes. When it's cold the light will stay on for a few days and when the outside temp gets hot the light will go away. It's annoying but I'm just glad it's just the intakes. Do you have any aftermarket parts?

*** When the light is on my rev idol is at 1k... When the light is off it's at 500k. That's how they figured it's the cold air messing up the a/f ratio.

had the same issue... they had it in twice and replace all coil packs... i lost faith and tracked it down myself.

turns out one of the contacts was not making good contact with the coil plug.

you can test it when the car starts misfiring, pull right over and keep the motor running. open the hood, juggle each connector and see if the miss stops.

i was going to buy new connectors and replace them, but they dont sell em... the whole harness is ridiculously expensive.

to permanently fix for free, pull the connectors and take a small screw driver and pry the connectors closer to the top so they can make good contact with the blade inside the connector.

You will see the metal tabs in the horizontal slots... just pry them out a little bit and plug them back in.

good luck.

I would question that diagnosis also.

:iagree: I wonder if he knows what the cel code was. I don't think stillen intakes can throw off a/f that much to cause a cel. I bet something else is going on.

Hey guys, sorry I've been M.I.A. So let me give you guys an update. First of all, my 40th is stock. Since the initial misfiring of the one ignition coil, the dealer replaced all 6. 300 miles later my Service Engine Soon light turns on again. They tell me it was a am ignition coil again. This time they replaced a couple of camshaft sprockets. I get my car back and a week later the light turns on again. At this point the dealer calls Corporate nissan, they have them open up my engine. They tell me they want to replace the short block, so they do. I get my car a week later, and two days after my car had a hard start and sure enough the darn light turns on again. I called the dealership and they tell me most likely they will throw in a new engine. Btw this whole time my car is running just fine its just the darn service engine soon light and that hard start up at times. Do I have a lemon? I love my 40th, would hate to part ways.

Oh and I bought the car used with 14k on it and now it has 21k. New engine at 21k? I'd take it. The factory warranty ends this June

most likely p0300 based on the details. random cylinder misfire.

Your dealership sounds completely incompetent.

They seriously replaced a short block without basically any diagnostics and now a whole motor? God, can you imagine if it wasn't under warranty? I would have sued them for being incompetent! They have what is most likely an electrical issue and are replacing engine mechanical parts and you don't see a problem with this? Unless, they have some really sound logic behind why they think a new motor is going to solve the issue I don't see it doing you any good. I think the problem is much more on the track of what ryan0 posted and not the crap your dealership is feeding you.

Find out the actual code/codes post it and I will be more then willing to help you get on the right track.

I've tagged this thread because I'm having a very similar issue.
I recently bought an 09 touring sport coupe with 6mt and after having it about a month it started throwing a SES light. I took it in to my local dealer for Oil change and to check out the light. The rep said that it showed a misfire and they reset the light and told me they would contact Nissan Tech Support. Light has come back on twice since and I'm dropping it off at the dealer on Sat. They are supposed to keep it until they find out why this is happening. I'll let ya'll know what they say.
I only have 15000 miles on car now. 7k when I got it.

Can you actually feel the misfire continue?

Take the new engine, but next time the light comes on just go to another dealership. I wouldn't let them open up a brand new engine.

ICENINE 02-05-2013 12:33 AM

Hey guys, so they now tell me they don't think it's an engine problem anymore. Thanks for the new short block, only cost them 8k they say. They still can't figure out what's causing it to throw the light. It's only been doing it during cold starts and the engine shakes a bit. So now they want to connect the car to a CPU and drive my car around to see if anything is not normal? They sound incompetent to me. I haven't called corporate nissan because I have a lot of patience, but man...enough is enough. How the hell they won't know what's wrong with my car. They got like 4 Japanese techs looking at it. I'll try to find out what's the code it's throwing and post back here. Thanks for
