My Z just got vandalized. WTF!!

About an hour ago, I had this meeting at a church to do some field measurement for the owner. Mind you, I just detailed the car a few weeks ago and it's been in the garage for the most part so it's pretty clean.

I'm inside the building for an hour an a half and was just about to leave. First I notice little 'spots' on the glass which I thought was tree sap at first, but ruled it out since there were no trees near by. I get out of the car to wipe it down an notice it's all over the side and across the hood, like someone threw a soda bottle. It looks like soda or iced tea...sticky. Thank God the wax protected it a bit. I grab a mf towel and some water to wipe it off. At this point I'm already pretty mad, but I see most of it wiping away so I think "it's not so bad." Then I start wiping down lower on the panel and see this....:crying:

I was seriously about to cry. I'm so livid right now. I didn't piss anyone off or anything. It was just some as$hole who had to f*ck with other people's property. It looks like some threw rocks at my car:mad:

Anyway, what should I do next? Do I need to file a police report in order have my insurance fix this? How much do you think this would cost to fix? My deductable is $750.

Also, if anyone knows a good shop in Nassau/Suffolk County where I can get this fixed, it would really help me out.

I would check out a good paintless dent repair guy. Probably cheaper than your deductible and if the guy is good, you will forget you ever had this problem.

Not sure if the police would do anything, we have vehicle reporting centres around here to look after such things.

Sorry for you and your Z.

Hard to tell, but it chipped the paint :(

Double check with your insurance if it will be held against you if you make a claim. A few bucks saved now might cost in the long run with higher rates.

+1 on the dentless repair guys tho.

Oh man that sucks! Sorry that happened. ******* bastards

speedfreek 08-02-2012 12:03 PM

That sucks. I hate people who mess with others people stuff. Cowards wouldnt do it with you standing there. Hopefully they will get what they deserve.

Unfortunately since it cracked the paint you wont get it back to 100% with paintless dent repair alone. But the cheapest out is going to be paintless dent repair and Dr. Colorchip or Applied Colors Scratch repair. If you can live with that.

Of course to get it back close to pristine its going to need a body shop to repaint the panels with the cracked paint.

Dude, that blows. Definitely contact your insurance, I think this type of claim does not usually count against you since it's not an accident where you are at fault.

That sucks. There are some PDR guys who do small repairs like that to. Best to get a quote from a bodyshop, and a quote from a PDR guy if you can find a good one in your area.

Also, like someone else mentioned, find out how your insurance will be impacted if you make a claim.

Good luck.

Came back and saw that the paint is chipped. FWIW I just had the whole quarter panel fixed (dent) and repainted on mine and it ran under $500.

Raaaaa this is upsetting! I can’t stand incidents like this. I feel your pain! If you have insurance that covers vandalism and pay extra for it a month or signed up for it when quoted you will be ok. They will handle it with no deductable this is (progressive) others do the same and rate will not go up since this was not your fault. If you don’t I’m guessing this would be your options. Dent removal like a dent pro will take them out for about $200.00 or less but the scratch will still be there. If you anal about that like I would go with the deductable and get your whole damaged area fixed because im guessing it will be more than $750.00.

Mikes350z 08-02-2012 12:42 PM

Someone rear ended me and drove off when I was parked in an apartment complex lot(different story) point is, like my situation if this is vandalism/no fault your insurance will cover you without using your deductible since you were not at fault and not in the car. Police report and then call insurance. You should not have to pay your deductible and your rates will not increase.

speak to insurance company.

Cmike2780 08-02-2012 12:45 PM

I'll def check pdr and get a quote. I can live with a chip, but the dents bother. The dent on the door doesn't have a chip, but I'm wondering if pdr can make it look like new again. I have Geico and will have to check my policy. Hopefully it doesn't go against me.

dmhenderson 08-02-2012 01:02 PM

So my experience has been that unless you are designated "at fault" in the accident, your rates will not go up. "At fault" means either you hit another car or drove into a curb/mailbox/etc.

Vandalism, rogue deer and dumb bimbos hitting you in a parking lot and driving off do not count and you are free to ask your insurance company directly whether the claim would be considered "at fault" or not.

One caveat: Just because your rates stay the same doesn't mean that they won't drop you if you say....file a claim every time a rock dings your hood. Too many claims = you're a bad risk (even if you're just unlucky) and you will be dropped. Your NEXT insuror will be able to see this and will charge you a higher rate.

Also, good god who did you piss off to end up with a $750 deductible?

dmhenderson 08-02-2012 01:03 PM

Also if it makes you feel any better, I sat in my car alternating between punching the dash, screaming "NOOOOOOO" and "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU**" when the deer hit me until my girlfriend literally said, 'You are an adult what's wrong with you'

Cmike2780 08-02-2012 01:19 PM

Gieco has my claim on record, but I haven't activated it yet. Geico said I would have to pay the deductable. Gonna check out PDR first and see if I can just pay for it out-of-pocket.

this. fu*cking. sucks! I was saving up to upgrade my brakes.

*The $750 deductable was the only way to lower my insurance payment to within reason. I'm over 25, not married, have a clean record and no claims in the past 10 years, but the insurance was still over $2,100 a year with Allstate. It dropped to $1,400 a year when I switched to Geico and paying a $750 deductable. All the other insurance companies had similar rates as Allstate...if not higher.
