Default EMERGENCY - I-Key and mechanical key questions

370Z Forum --

So I had a bad bit of luck today.

While I was on my run, my Z key popped out of my pocket and I only noticed it 15 minutes after it had happened.

Good news is I found the key but it landed right on a set of street car tracks (think Euro subway system) and a train had ensured that my key had met its demise. I was able to salvage the mechanical key and get into my car.

I checked the owner's manual and I did not find anything on it, but I know that other Nissan vehicles can accept a mechanical key. I couldn't find anything confirming this in the owner's manual but does anyone know if the Z is able to accept a mechanical key to start the motor.

Pretty lousy way to end a Sunday but I guess I learned a lesson here...

Thanks.

It's Not possible. Sorry

You do have a backup fob right? If not go to your local dealer to order a replacement, new owners are supposed to receive two fob's at purchase. gl

You can insert the mechanical key in the lower left side of the dash.

The slot will only hold the fob with the mechanical key, not a mechanical key by it self.

I thought you could too, but it is built to ready the I-Key in case the battery in the I-Key dies.

Looks like I am SOL.

I did receive two I-Keys, but I am in the military and the second one resides with my parents.

Just a bad, bad run of luck.
